My Grandfather was a Travelling Salesman and worked for a number of companies in Birmingham in 1870s-80s I am trying to find out what the above compnay sold as I beleive he was working for them when he died.

Also Messsrs R & T Collis. I believe it was something to do with Drapers not sure what they would have sold at the time.

Couldn’t find Wilsons in 1870s. In 1888 directories had:

Wilson Kenneth &Co. merchants& warehousemen, 59,& 60 High street, & drapers, Martineau street.

1883 directory listed Kenneth Wilson by referring to Newbury & Wilson. They are described a sdrapers at 59, 60 High st,

Don’t know if I have the wrong firm, but the only entry I can find in tha period for R & T Collis is:

Collis R & T (Established 1810) hop merchants, 141 steelhouse Lane; 27 High St Borough, London s.e.; & Hop market , Worcester

Wilson info is spot on as I though great-grandad was a Commercial traveller for a drapers. Any idea what goods such a traveller would have taken round at the time?

I think drapers normally sold cloth and household cloth products. I would guess he would normally take round sample lengths of material for curtains, furniture covering and possibly for dressmaking .
