Quite right - and the M/1561 refers to his entry in a roll. Translating the code into the National Archives piece number, you need document WO329/3132, page 1561.
SWB rolls usually give
> date of enlistment
> date of discharge
> unit discharged from
> cause of discharge
> age at discharge
> whether served overseas
> unique number of badge
That would be great if I can get that info as his service records (if they weren't destroyed in world war 2) aren't on Ancestry yet as I am waiting for surnames beginning R.
