Maycock family
I posted a message a while ago - my grandfather lived in Nechells Place in 1904 after his discharge from the army - I thought that was my only connection with Birmingham - I was so wrong.
I have been looking for my grandmother for a year - her name , as far as I knew was Alma Elizabeth Maycock and that was all I knew. I have recently, however, found out that she was called Ada Eliza Maycock and she was born in Warwick in 1883. She was christened in All Saints Church, Warwick in 1883.
I also found her two brothers Arthur and Samuel Maycock. By the 1901 census Ada or Alma as she may have become by then, had disappeared again. Her father had died in 1898 and the two boys were in The Children's Emigration Home, St Lukes Road, Birmingham. They were sent to Canada to the Middlemore Home on 25 May 1901, they went to Halifax, Nova Scotia.
I have traced Arthur in the 1911 census, living in York, New Brunswick, Canada. He joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force in 1917 and died 6 weeks before the end of the war in France.
However Samuel seems to have completely disappeared. I cannot find him in the 1911 Canada census or back in Britain.
I would be so pleased to hear from anyone who knows anything about the homes, or what might have happened to both boys on arrival in Canada. Or if anyone has any ideas about where I should look next I would be very grateful.
