Mau Mau. A trade union in the 1950s?

My uncle was a skilled toolmaker in Birmingham. I remember him referring to going to meetings of the 'Mau Mau'. This was probably a play on the Kenyan uprising name in the 1950s, but was it a nickname for a particular trade union, or similar organisation?
