marshall George

rowan

Born a Brummie
Please, can anyone help me with a look up for the death of GEORGE WILLIAM MARSHALL b1890?

He married CAROLINE SMITH in 1913

They lived at Victoria Place of Webster Street. He was there in 1970 but I can't find a death for him.

They had at least one child Dorothy.

He worked at Lucas for awhile but when I don't know.

I know his wife(Caroline) moved to Erdington when the houses were demolished but did George go with her??

I didn't know this side of the family at all except my Great Aunt Carrie who I meet only a few times in 1955/56.

If anyone can help I would be very grateful.
Thank you :1113:

Re: George marshall

A quick glance though the BMD shows a George William Marshall, born 16 Jan 1891, Died April 1989 aged 98 in Pontypool, Monmouthshire. I don't suppose that's him, is it?.
Pontypool, April 1989, volume 28 page 1168 if it is.

Re: George marshall

Many, many thanks Lloyd for taking the time to look. Yes I think it is the George I am looking for as his daughter went from Aston to Wales:)

I don't think Gertrude(Marshall) and George(Marshall) were living together so can I be cheeky and ask if you could lookup Gertrude's death please? She was born 1890 and the last I knew of her she was living in Erdington in the 1970's.

Again Lloyd, many thanks for that great result I am really, really grateful.

Re: George marshall

Many thanks Pom, yes it does look like my George.

Fancy his father born in East Indies!!

Is there away I can find out his parents names??

Re: George marshall

Rowan this could be the marriage as it was the only one that came up with those initials G W & A M and would also fit in with what looks like Florence's birth also the only one to come up.

The Marriage will have both father's names on.

Re: George marshall

Hi rowan

I went through all the 70's but i wonder if this is the one in 1980

Caroline Marshall 1st qtr 1980 Birmingham 32 0382

It gives her birth as 18 JY 1891 and i think you have her birth as the 3rd qtr 1890 so could be a miscalculation, also there was no Caroline Smith birth in 1891, B,ham or Aston

Re: George marshall

Rowan I have been to the library today and could not find Caroline in Erdington. Webster street was out of use from late 1972.
I have found out some strange info on these two.
I was wondering if someone out there can find the son which I believe they had.
George did die in Wales and Dorothy signed death records.

Re: George marshall

Thank you all for your help.

Pom: sadly none of those you found are my Caroline as she had no other name...........but thank you for your time :)

Andy: That is Caroline's daughter Dorothy D born 1919 that Pom has found. She was 2 yrs younger than her cousin Rachael b Feb 1917. ;)

Bren: Thank you, that could well be Caroline's death......that would make her 90 years old. Her birth was Sept. 1890 Aston 6d 404. She was a twin to Gertrude b. Sept 1890 Aston 6d 404 :)

Thank you all so much for your efforts I am so grateful to you all.

Re: George marshall

Hello pom I dont know the lads name all I know is what my mom told me.
Is that george Marshall who worked at Lucas, I dont even know which Lucas. Had a daughter and a son but the son died early in life, the wife took both children and only came back when the son died.
I know that George lived by the Aston Hiperdrome in the late 1930's early 40's.
The george which I believe married caroline smith,
I have looked on the records for this time and know george was living there in 1918 but there is no record of caroline but she is back on the records in 1924.
As they married in 1913 I dont understand this, could she be living there and not on the records.
7 court2 victoria place which was off webster street Aston,
any good ideas please help.
Andrew

Re: George marshall

Andy, I do know that Caroline was living there in 1955/56 as I used to take my Saturday night "going out to a dance dress" and changed in her house!!

I do vaguely remember Dorothy but never remember ever seeing George there but then I wasn't there for more than a couple of hours.

I will keep digging into the memory pot and see if I can find anything else out.

Re: George marshall

Andy you could apply for the Birth and death Cert's and state that you only want them if the parents and may be the infoment are George and Caroline Marshall.
They will give you heaps of info' including addresses at the time,
they cost about seven english pounds each.

Re: George marshall

Please, can anyone enlarge the photograph I posted of Gertrude Smith?
It is only a small photo to begin with and I'm not to good with uploading and such.................sorry:cry:

Re: George marshall

Rowan I know they both lived there until 1972 but then I have no answer I have looked at the records for Erdington but no luck.
I have ordered the death records from pontypool as I am hoping this will give me the answer one way or the other.
As there was twelve born in the area in 1890's.
I have been checking everyone of them. But it is coming back to George every time.
dorothy became a wanty sometime because she is on the records with her husband at 7 VICTORIA PLACE.
I know the GEORGE I am looking for lived down an alley in Aston by the Hipperdrome, And Victoria place ran from Webster Street to Burlington Street.
I believe there was two familys living the area one at 35 Burlington Street and one on Phillip Street which were very close to Victoria Place.
In early 1900's. One of these I believe are his family as both had a son called George, between 1890 and 1892.
Thankyou ever so much Andy

Re: George marshall

pom that sounds like a great Idea, I will try tomorrow and see what they say.
