I have a 97 year old relative who says she worked in Madame Kings shop centre of Birmingham...anyone have any info photos ??

Hello Humble,

Possibly get some answers if you can put up a few more details of this lovely lady,

Her name & age (married or single) & years when working at this shop & where the shop situated?
Kelly's directories may be of help too,

Other folks (or their relatives) may remember her & the shop then your answers hopefully roll in,
Good luck,,John

Sorry, Cannot find any references to "Madam King" in any trade directories or phone books is it possible that the shop was known as that rather than the registered trading name.

I have a feeling that if the shop was in the Union Street area it might be the one that was in the City Arcade. I think in the 1950's
it was called Terry's. Perhaps if the lady who remembers working in the shop could see these photos posted on the Union Street thread it
might jog her memory. I was at school on Corporation Street just around the corner in 1952 for a couple of years and later on took the
bus every day to that area to go to work. I travelled with a lady who was an alterations seamstress at this shop. The shop sold high
fashion clothing and hats which were skilfully displayed in the windows. My travelling companion used to relate stories of the clients who
visited the shop. I don't think there were any other shops around that area like this one:

Possibly the shop Jennyann mentions was
Terry Gabrielle Ltd. ladies' outfitters, 1 & 2 City arcades 2. Midland 4723

I suppose it could not have been Mrs Evelyn King , milliner at 23 Martineau st. I don't know if milliners sold only hats then
