Peter Lunan was living at 17 Holland Rd Aston, Birmingham when he commited suicide by drowning in the Severn River in Upton upon Severn in 1935.

Any mention of him in Kelly's please?

I am researching Peter Lunan for an elderly gentlman who was Peter's illegitimate son.

An unidentified man drowned in the Severn in the parish of Upton on Aug 4th, 1935. He was later identified, according to an addition to his death certificate on 28 Oct 1935 as Peter Lunan, 39 years of 17 Holland Rd Aston, Birmingham. Foreman moulder, employed by Messrs John Wright of the Engle Range Works, Thimble Hill Lane in Aston. This is all the information my friend has except that Peter was from Scotland, had a sister named Isobel or Isabella and was married with 2 children, (names unknown) and the death was thought to be a suicide.

I presume such an incident would have made the news and am hoping there may be more details available.

Any help appreciated.

Re: Peter Lunan

Hello
The electoral rolls have him at 17 Holland Road, Aston in 1930 living with Agnes & Elsie Rudge and William Daniel Whelan. In 1935 at the address is Peter Lunan and Elsie Rudge. There is also a Peter Lunan in 1927 at 67 Sycamore Road, Aston with Arthur & Lily Sadler.

Re: Peter Lunan drowning 1935

If it was suicide it may not be reported in a newspaper. I am not sure why but they don't often get reported. There would be a coroners report but I think these come under the 100 year closure rule. Its always difficult to find information on these things. Just a slight error in your post it's Thimble Mill Lane not Thimble Hill. Hope someone can help you more...good luck.

Re: Peter Lunan drowning 1935

THank you Wendy for your thoughts. Every little bit helps. I misinterpreted Thimble Mill for Hill from the death cert addition. Have a happy Christmas. 11.30 am here Christmas day and very hot already! Cold lunch and a swim this afternoon. A bit different from your Christmas I think .

Re: Peter Lunan drowning 1935

a Peter Lunan was living at 67 Sycamore Rd, Aston in 1927, with Arthur & Lily Sadler.
By 1930 he was at 17 Holland Rd, with Agnes and Elsie Rudge, and William Daniel Whelan. In 1935 only Peter and Elsie are listed there. The house had been in the Rudge family since 1918, or slightly before.

J.W. Wright's foundry in Thimble Mill Lane was also known as the Radiation Gas Fire factory.
