Astonian

gone but not forgotten
H J PITTS'
Does anybody ever knew a H J PITTS OF OF 53 PROMENADE CHELTENAM
I came across an addressed evenlope with king george stamp on it not being posted ;
i can only presume it was typed by my mothers aunt ivy jelf when she was young in the family as she was registered as a secretary
for i presme grand fathers bussiness ; at tyburn rd as he was involved with unions and people i beleive william george jelf ;
when they demolished ivydene 901 holly lane tyburn rd which was my grand parents property from many years ago
at that perid i was searching for things i actualy found some good things of history from the building but i actualy found a addressed evo; with this name on and with the stamp its a 2and half blue stamp of king george on it there was no letter inside thou ;
its obvisios that it was intended to be posted in that period
so i was wondering whether or not can this persons be traced and what was it a buildin of a house hotel or a bussiness as the was supplyers of provisins around birmingham in those days ;
any assistance if it is posible to say wha it was would be very gratefu ;
best wishes astonian;

Re: Lost m h pitts cheltenam

Hi Astonian,

I know now't about your query for H J Pitts of Cheltenham but that King George blue stamp sounds very interesting ?
Are there any Stamp Collectors on here who could tell you its rarity & possible value ?

Hold on to it anyway,,,may be worth a bob-or-two... Cheers John

Re: Lost m h pitts cheltenam

Hi Astonian, a JOSEPH PITTS built the gates to PITTVILLE LAWN in Cheltenham so maybe your H.J. PITTS is a descendant of him.

53 The Promanade is the Council offices of Cheltenham so maybe H.J. Pitts worked there?

hi john and rowan
many thanks for your replies they are both intresting to know
given the fact that grand father was a figure in society and given his postion of being involved with legal and goverments
and i know through google information as well and i know they was involved with the birmingham city council and courts
from the early stages of the council known as bush house which in those was set up and of course being involved with the union he was the head of the metal union;i have to go with the council answer of the council house one
as i have said from day one in my very early threads the people of aston and birmingham never relized and knew about there secret life of whom
they really was ; people would have seen there names around brum above coffeee houses but never knew of what you like the secret life
i think it was george and charles used to sit on special crimminal cases the real serious case they was pecial juryers ; in brum as welll
and it was our grt grand father whom was the seruos figure of the hanging judge of worcester ;whom was responible for sending for albert
to come and hang william yarnold in worcestershire jail in 1925 ;for murder
i have all the info; and pictures of hoim in the dock and the hanging cel given to me by the retired news reporter from the worcestershire berrow nes paper as he done the aticle and sent me all the paper works ; i do have a picture of judge jelf and our uncle ray in oxford asfollowed is life style and in his foot steps through the trade of the metal industry ; and such amazing picture of ray and the grand father judge they feature each other ray is a goverment officeir ,may be i should not say this but he his listed on google for ray jelf oxford councillor with all his profle of whom he his and his postion in k life
and he was educated at the aston commercial for bussiness
auntie ivy was there secretary and she never married and she ran the home and bussines of 901 tyburn rd erdington which you all know as a coffee shop and when there grand father came to brum he brought with him a special brick which was in platedin the right hand of the shop
there home was called ivydene as there thatch cottage of the yester years which is listed as ivy dene 901 tyburn rd
i now have a picture of ivy in her younger days thanks to a relative whom contacted me ;i am hoping to put it on the forum ;and along
with another photo of the jelfd sons of willaim george jelf the founder it a cutting from the old brum books with senor jelf standing out side the banna ovens aliong with friends of dignitys ; thanks again guys sorry if i got carried away ;best wishes alan; astonian;
