Thats what I love about family history all the extra info brings it to life so to speak. We wouldn't even think about a leg iron manufacturer today..thank goodness! I have found an abundance of info from the probate records.
At long last found out where my gt grandfather Thomas Smith of W.B.A. fame died, Kingswinford of all places. He didn't die at his home address though. After several phone calls and wild goose chases I ordered his death certificate from Dudley of all places...still it adds to the fun!

so glad you found where thomas died wend..makes it all worth while..to be honest i had not done much work on the froggatt side until recently and still have much more to do yet but slowly getting there and fitting it all together..actually it makes a change from finding out me rellies all ran pubs lol..

ive just found out some more info..

thomas froggatt and co became hyatts main competitors in the late 18th early 19th century and thomas sold the co to hyatts in 1937 but continued as an employee until he retired in 1948 at the age of 84 when hyatt moved to baltimore road gt barr..

as well as supplying police hand cuffs etc thomas was a good friend of harry houndini and supplied many of the cuffs and leg irons used in his escape acts..it is thought that thomas froggatt must have been an exporter abroad because froggatt cuffs are turning up in usa...
