LONG LOST FAMILY SPECIAL: THE MOTHER AND BABY HOME SCANDAL
Two episodes across two consecutive nights on ITV1 and ITVX

SERIES SYNOPSIS:
Extraordinary reunions end decades of yearning in this special edition of Long Lost Family, which spans two nights. At the heart of the stories that Davina and Nicky uncover is the scandal of the Mother and Baby Homes which dealt with the “problem” of unmarried mothers in this country, and from the 1940s to the 1970s blighted hundreds of thousands of lives. Documents from the Ministry of Health and local health authorities suggest that government funds were paid to these institutions. With mounting claims of cruelty on a shocking scale, campaigners continue to demand an apology from the UK government.

EPISODE ONE:
Tonight Jean (85) – sent to the Home of the Good Shepherd in Surrey aged 16, pregnant and unmarried – searches for her first-born daughter. Viv and Julie search on behalf of their mother Margaret (89) for their older sister, born at The Haven in Hampshire. Continues tomorrow.

EPISODE 2:
Following last night’s episode, Long Lost Family’s Special reaches its conclusion. Sisters Viv and Julie continue their search for their big sister while their mum Margaret (89) awaits their news. And Ann tries to uncover the fate of her brother, her mum’s first-born. Ann’s mum was a resident at St. Pelagia’s, a mother and baby home in Highgate, London.
