Dorset Tower

Dorset Tower was an 18 storey tower block on Camden Street on the Boulton complex in Soho, Birmingham. Built in 1971, it was 52 metres tall. It was of a large concrete panel construction contained 36 one bedroom and 70 two bedroom flats; 106 flats in total. It covered an area of 0.5 hectares/ 1.2 acres.
viv i think richard is talking about the block of flats shown in your photo on lodge road which was not dorset tower it was norfolk tower...dorset tower was as you say on camden street

Thank you! That’s 196 to 280 people depending upon occupancy. That is a lot of people, it’s a large site but very high density.
 
Have edited post #264 to clarify that the B&W photo is of Norfolk Tower, Lodge Road and the colour photo is of Dorset Tower, Camden Street.
 
Old style hardware shop at 398 Lodge Road of James Draper. Good photo considering the shop only lasted till 1920, him being on the electoral rolls till 1920, but shop having changed hands in 1921 Kellys. James took over the shop from another general dealer (hoe he is described in the 1911 census) between 1904 and 1908, having previously been a bricklayer in Kingsthorpe ,Nottinghamshire in 1901. Slightly mysteriously in 1901 he had 8 chilfren with him and his wife Mary, but in 1911 declared only 7 alive and none dead.. Presumably the business after WW1 did not do too well, as by 1921 heand Mary are at 9 Whitmore st, an dhe is a packer for an electroplate firm
