Hi all

Re: Harriet Llewellyn

Thanks Aidan and Pomgolian.

Aidan, I'm pretty sure she is Bham born as all the census' I have her in from 1851 state Bham but thanks for looking.
Pom - That looks pretty promising so I will have a look now although that would maker her dob abt 1811 - abt 16 years different?. Pity I'm no nearer to finding her parents:( IGI doesn't throw up any relevant births either.

Thanks again
Suzanne

Re: Harriet Llewellyn

The age may have been miss transcribed and could have been 20 which would fit better as ages were rounded up and down in that census... Just an idea :)

Re: Harriet Llewellyn

Is there any other clues in the later Census or M/Ds? Did she have any Llewellyn siblings, visitors or witnesses, have you managed to find the M/D certs (marriage should give her age, fathers name and occupation with luck and is probably the key document to get to move from the known to the unknown)

Re: Harriet Llewellyn

Hi Aidan
No other clues I'm afraid. Just from the 1851 census when she is by then married.
I will definitely send for the marriage certificate.
Thanks again
Suzanne

Re: Harriet Llewellyn

The only other things I could find given the info:

If the 1851C you are referring to shows her as a Button Maker in Derby, then there is a 1861C that is likely in No1 back of 48 New Summer St, Birmingham B19:
Thomas Field 33
Harriet Field 34
Ann Field 13
Charlotte Field 12
Caroline Field 10
Henry Field 7
Harriet Field 6
John Field 11 Mo

Can't see any obvious 1871C but you may like to try searching for each of the known children starting with unusual names - this can help find documents that are mistranscribed.

If she did not remarry, then there are a number of death dates poss, but most likely may be Jul-Sep 1877 in Aston

Re: Harriet Llewellyn

Hi Adian

Yes you are correct with the 1851 census which I have. I also have her in 1861 and think her death is around 1877. Thomas Field her husband died c1869. I haven't pinpointed her in the 1871 though. In the 1871 census one of her daughters is now married, Mirinda Bough nee Field and living with her are the younger brothers and sisters so perhaps Harriet died before 1877.

Re: Harriet Llewellyn

Hi
I have now received the marriage certificate for Harriet Llewellyn and Thomas Field 23.11.1845 St Luke's Church, Bham
Harriet was a widow and her father is Thomas Starkey a Sawyer
Thomas Field's father was Joseph Field a Bricklayer.
Harriet and Thomas's age is given as Full Age.

My problem now is that as she was a widow on her marriage to Thomas and going by her birth date from Census' abt 1826 bham, that would have made her around 17/18 on her second marriage? Surely this isn't full age? Also wouldn't she have been a little too young for a previous marriage?

To add to this I can't find a reasonable match in the 1841. Her address at the time of marriage was Edgbaston Street and Thomas Field's address was Tamworth.

Any help/suggestions gratefully received:)

Re: Harriet Llewellyn

Suzanne,
"Full age" was 21,but they often told porkys ( well mine did ),also a widow at 17/18 is not un heard of,I have a gt.gt.gran who was a widow with 3 children at 21,and another who married two different blokes, in the same church, and each time she gave spinster as her status.:)

Re: Harriet Llewellyn

Thanks Ray
I was wondering if she might have been fibbing about her age:)

Re: Harriet Llewellyn

Can't see any obvious earlier marriage between 1825-1841 to Llewellyn - but it may have been non-conformist, Roman Catholic or just "jumped the broomstick"

Re: Harriet Llewellyn

Thanks Aidan.

This lady is confusing me:) I thought once I got her marriage certif all would be sorted!!!

Maybe Tamworth????

Looks like she was born 1811 as a Starkie/Starkey, Married Someone Llewllyn between say 1830-1841 (when she appears as a Servant in Tamworth). He dies or they searate and she remarries 1845 as per your new certificate to Field, poss lies about age to appear younger. Moves back to Tamworth. Doesn't need to lie about age in 1871C and dies 1879.

James & Charlotte Starkey are likely to be siblings and may provide further clues

Re: Harriet Llewellyn

Ahh!!! Aidan I hope I haven't misled you with the reference for Thomas Field living in Tamworth at the time of marriage ?

Thomas Field was born in Bham and except for the Tamworth reference on marriage certif he is with Harriet in Bham except 1 census where they are in Derbyshire.

Then again I'm thinking that I may have to get one of their children's birth certificates. A thought is coming to me that maybe I have the wrong marriage certificate and the Thomas Field and Harriet Starkey/Llewellyn aren't my people?????

Oh no here we go again:)
Thanks for looking.
