THANKS so much for this. It has been many years(and pre computer) since I delved into the family tree business. It consisted of many many hours at the Birmingham Library in the 70's. I used to get side tracked with all those books at my disposal, so took five times as long to do anything! I used to go off at tangents whenever Birmingham history isteslf was to hand. Some of these names are very familiar, and now I have to unlock the files and start all over again and look at those censdus records to post.! Many thanks again and am so grateful.
Brummy hugs ...

For anyone intersted in the geographics of their surname, I found this site fascinating.

It let's you know where your surname(and maybe kinfolk) have ended up.

Sorry, I mean these 2 families. One from Yardley (on 2 pages) and one from Birmingham (All Saints district)
I didn't realise the second family had uploaded as I posted!!!
Must be tired!

Hello Gill,
I also have Liddiards in a family branch ( but nothing after the 1901 census). My branch starts with Mary Ann & William Liddiard . William was born in Hungerford c 1834 & died 1878 aged 45. The family lived in the B'ham area & had at least 9 children !!!!
Does this match anything in your tree ?
regards,
Margaret

Hello cousin Margaret!

Lovely to hear from you.

Yes...that particular William, if was married to Grace (Pitney), was a direct ancestor of mine. He moved to Birmingham when the railways opened up the countryside. I have only just joined the site and is a long, long time since I looked at any of the details, but I can find out for you should you wish? My brother has detailed the whole family tree. The Liddiards you speak of, if the same ones, moved to Birmngham from Wiltshire as you probably know. They were the first children of a family and when their father married again and had further children (I must look up details) lost out on the market garden inheritance! I guess it influenced their move? William was termed a "gardener" when he first moved to Brum, but soon moved on to other things.

I have been to Hungerford (the business was at Edington nearby) and the churchyard has quite a few Liddiards! I managed to track down the line to 1603 to White Waltham in Berks as I recall but could get no further. Have you had fun chasing them to ground?

My very best wishes to you...Do let me know should you require me to do some digging in the loft. Lovely to "meet" you.

Gill :):):)

Hello again Gill,
William Liddiard b c1834 a jeweller by trade, was the son of William Liddiard, Gardener ( as stated on the marriage cert of William & Mary Ann in 1857.) I really only know this family through the censuses, so my info stops in 1901. My interest in the family was because Mary Ann Brough married into the Liddiard clan & I then began to trace her children etc. So I do have some info on names if you wish to have them ? The name Brough was given as a 2nd name to a couple of their sons.
Regards,
Margaret.

Hello Margaret!

Thanks for your message and yes, would like any info you have, if that wouldn't be too much trouble. I am trying to update the information I have. I shall have a look for Broughs in my info, too. I have a friend who lives a couple of miles outside Hungerford (Liddiard country!) who is going to so some legwork for me in the area (if I talk nicely to him!) and if I come up with anything...will let you know! Do you have any pics?? I am desperate for them. We hardly have anything.

I so appreciate your interest and help.

Gill I always remember my nan talking about the Liddiards from Franchise street Perry Barr. I wish I had taken note but you don't when your young. She always looked up to the family for some reason. Jean.
