Lichfield Road and surrounding area, Mere Green/Four Oaks

Can anyone help me?

I am looking for the house number for Gilbertsone (name of house), Lichfield Road, Sutton Coldfield. I am trying to find if this house is still standing. It was the home of an Austin Gyde according to the 1911 Census. We know that Austin Gyde moved into Conygar, Luttrell Road sometime in the years to follow.

The chauffer to Mr Gyde was an Alf Jezard who also lived in a house called Abbotsford somewhere in the Four Oaks/Mere Green area. I am also looking for any information regarding this property - location wise and if it is still standing.

I have been doing some research for some of Alf Jezard's descendants but cannot find any information about these two properties.

I think you have misread the entry for Austin Gyde in the 1911 census. The house immediately before Mr Gyde's is Mr A Brampton at Gilbertstone, Lichfield Road, Sutton Coldfield. The next entry is Mr Gyde at Elton , Four Oaks Sutton Coldfield. Many of the houses around it are described as Doe Bank , so they all must be in the Doe Bank area south of four oaks station .

Hi Mike,
Many thanks for that - took the info from a 1911 census summary and been misled - however still don't know where this property is ! Would looking into the electoral registers give me any chance of locating Elton and the other property Abbotsford ?

Its very easy to be misled , as the census entries for 1911 have two pages each house, one a titel page, and th etitel page is listed after the main page. The census might give a number, or might just give names of houses. It would only be available from the referenc elibrary an dpresumably from Sutton library. Sutton rolls are not online.

Mike,
Thanks again for that - will have a look in the Central Library next time I'm in town or failing that Sutton library. Hopefully might get some idea on where these two properties are/were located.
