Lewis family

Tinpot

master brummie
Just gone back to revue this 1911 census and realised that there is a third child recorded as born live and died before that year. I thought my Dad was the third child of the marriage but he was born in 1915. I can’t find any information about this birth. Any help would be appreciated.

also if someone could locate the address of 52 Birchall St please. Tinpot

There's a birth registration for a Charles Edward Lewis Mar qtr 1909 Bham but he appears to be child the son of a Charles James & Susan Lewis.

Which leave a Dora Hilda Lewis, birth registered Sep qtr 1910 Aston, death registered the same but can't be certain that she is the child your looking for.

The children born and died is not always reliable. I think some people may have got a little confused with what to include, such as a miscarriage.

Snap:
There is a possible birth and death but I cannot be sure it is the right person.

I agree with Dora Hilda as mmn of Cartwright fits

I started with Kelly's for 1913 (nearest online to 1911). 52 is not listed but 54 is.

Then I went to the 1918 map (surveyed in 1913). So 52 must have been near to the corner with Cheapside. Best I can do.

Thanks Janice. I found some photos of housing in Birchall St on the forum site. By 1915 the family were in Sherlock St. I’ve attached pic of a bible that belonged to Dora’s Grandfather John Cartwright which listed the Lewis family in the back. I have always thought that my Dad had been cut out (see top left) . At least I can make a record of Dora now.

Edward Gunnell 1794-1860 is father of Susan Lewis my Gt Gandmother.
I have a residence as Severn Trow, Diglis Worcester and also Bath Road Worcester. Would like to find the position of the Severn Trow which I assume is a riverside alehouse/inn.
Also I have seen on the internet that there is a record of an accident with a Pickford Carrier involving Edward Gunnell born 1794 on the Ancestry site to which I don’t have access.

A Severn Trow is a boat designed for travelling the Severn. There seems to be a lock and marina at Diglis.
Yes Janice they are sailing boats.I have also found a record of a Merchant Seaman Edward Gunnell which may be connected.

The 1860 PO directory lists the Severn Trow as in Quay St, Worcester. This is shown on the 1883 map below in red

I think there may have been more than one Severn Trow Inn in Worcester at various times. Diglis is to the south of Worcester and there seems to be another mentioned being on Hylton St.

Yes MWS I have seen 2 in the town but cannot find one recorded in Diglis.

Yes MWS, you are correct.Quay St does not seem to be in Diglis, but Bath road would agree with Diglis
