Lest we forget !.....

Well it seems as though here in NZ this generation have! First we had all the War Medals stolen by thieves from the National War Museum in December 2007.
(however we did get them back after offering thousands of dollars in reward for info').

Now with ANZAC Day only a week away, thieves have stolen 6 thousand Poppy's, collection tins and official badges with a street value of 12,000 Dollars, from a RSA (Returned Service Mans Association) in a theft which has disgusted war veterans. President of the Takapuna Returned and Services' Association (RSA) described the thieves today as a "pack of mongrels'' over last Sunday's theft.

How ruthless can people be? Where's the respect for our countries gone? To say nothing for the respect for those who fought and died for their and our freedom.

Unfortunately Respect For Those Who Gave Their Lives In Both Wars(and Subsequent Events)seems To Be Diminishing Rapidly, Even If They Catch The B----rs They Dont Get Harsh Enough Punishments

Pom, I am so sorry to hear about the thefts unfortunatly the same happens here. It is so difficult to understand these morons. But we must not despare its only a minority. Here in the UK we try to get schools involved in projects like Key Hill, the Memorial Arbouritum,Pen Museum, this works because the charities get more money for this so is an incentive. The big problem is getting volunteers to guide the kids and of course they have to go through checks but I think its a start in the right direction. I know there are some you will never get through to though. The Pen Room have some lovely books produced by schools after their visits.

I think the heading says it all "Lest we forget !....." I dont think these morons have ever been informed what went on in the world in OUR youth. It seems that history taught in schools does not include anything about that type of conflict. only how we held back the third world by our actions.

Sorry to say but the significance of ANZAC Day here in NZ plays a large part in the school curriculum.
School children are encouraged to write about what the know about ANZAC Day, the writers of Essays deemed the best have been sponsored to visit Gallipoli and Europe for quite a few years now.
It is very well observed here and everyone is encouraged to wear Poppy's: News readers, Teachers and all the public services.
That is what the thieves are counting on, to make their thousands. It is that what makes it all the more of a despicable act

Thank you

I never got to hear a bomb
I never got to shoot a gun
I didn't have to run for cover
Or watch my comrades suffer

I didn't get to smell the gas
Or wait long hours for time to pass
I didn't have to dig a trench
And hang on to my every sense
I never had cold blistered feet
Or an enemy to meet

But i will remember those young brave men
Who faced the front again and again
Who grit and held their breaths in fear
And took their orders from their peer

Who cried for mom and prayed to God
When crouching down upon the sod
Who saw the blood, who saw the gore
Watched the shrapnel as it tore

And peeped in through the doors of hell
Yet did not mummer and did not tell
Who gave their all and much, much more
What atrocities they must have saw

To shed one tear for these young brave men
Will not bring them back again
But i won't forget what they did
They gaves their lives for me to live.

hello
Same here in Australia because we have a two week school holiday here in Western Australia a service was honoured last week in schools.
But next Friday the 25th April Anzac Day myself my son and his daughters will be at the Dawn service in Kings Park. There will be quite a number of Dawn services around the State of Wa and of course around Australia. Also a number of schools in WA have sent students to Gallipolli.
There are always numerous locals and people who have have travelled from afar to attend the Dawn services in Turkey to honour the personal from all countries who fought at Gallipolli.
There will be a march through Perth as always but not so many WW1 veterens now, even WW11 veterens are getting slower.

Regards Pam
