hello Janice - thankyou for your interest but i don't think that's the Houghton who was the banjo maker - however - i'd be very interested in any old photos from the 20's - regards BobIs this the same family?

My maternal grandfather owned a successful string of wireless shops in Birmingham between approx. 1927 and 1939. At around that time he sold all but one which was situated at 1514, Stratford Road, Hall Green and run by his son "Jock" Houghton. hello pjm. - thank you so much that is very interesting! - it is hard to 'read between the lines' of the standing records - possibly George was an enterprising individual who constantly changed horses? - however, his 'Reliance' factory is well known - thanks again - Bob1897 and 1900 Kelly's but by 1905 the words "musical instrument" had disappeared.

This is the trade mark (GH&S) of one of his Banjos from the 1920s., there are at least half a dozen for sale on Ebay UK.
