Latham nee Simpson Mary Ann- brick wall time!!!!

Looking for some help as I can't get the info I want.
Mary Ann Simpson latham was hubbys great gran. She was born in 1884 and died in 1962, in Birmingham.
She had 4 children and her husband, Thomas latham, died in 1930.
Folowing this, Mary Ann went to be a live in housekeeper to a man and his 4 children, his wife had died a year previously. She was with them I think from about 1934 until after the war, when she moved again, as the children were grown up, to housekeep for a doctor.
I am trying to find out where she was living with both of these families but am having no luck, as I don't know the names of either family - I know one of the daughters of the first family was called Kath and she married a Canadian, in Canada, I would guess around 1950, she moved back to England for a while but I'm not sure when, then returned to Canada. her married name was Robinson. Her older brother was called Arthur and he joined the RAF at the outbreak of war and the 3 girls were evacuated.
Please can someone point me in the right direction to try and find where she lived with these families?

i know its early days but some one may come up with some think ;
but may i suggest king edwards rd ladywood birmingham 18 it was at the time just off the monument rd ; or also there was a latham
i think this one was john latham whom ran a car bussines repairs next to the crown picture house ladywood that was a family run bussness in
the late fortys and through until t least the sixties before moving on and they lived in and around edgbaston ; birmingham 16
or there was the lathams at aston cross a painti and deco shop the one in kingedwards rd ran a tea chest bussiness in the balsall heath area before it became classed as mosely and i still beleive there was the one named alf ;
it every chance they may not match but one never knows ;still its early yet and our specialist have ridden up yet but they will sooner or later

hi sue trying to identify your family before 1930 when thomas died...dont surpose you have any ideas of the area mary ann was living in after this date do you...on the e rolls in 1927 ive found a thomas latham..mary ann latham and a eliza latham living at 181 wyndcliff road yardley on the transcribed page but on the original its coming up as small heath bordesley green...no mention of the name simpson though..

here are some "possibilities" sue, from the electoral rolls.

1935 Mary A Latham living with Ernest Cecil Evans of 49 Bowyer Rd. Saltley
1939 Mary A Latham living with Alfred Claude Bates of 32 Denville Crescent, Stechford
1950 Mary A Latham living with James A. and Nellie Meredith of 2 Harcourt Rd. Stockland Green

There are many Mary Lathams but Ive excluded the ones with a middle intial that wasnt A, + any that were with a husband.

It looks like Shera may have hit on a good possibility for Alfred Claude Bates at 32 Denville Crescent.

1930 Annie & Alfred Claude Bates
1935 Alfred Claude Bates (presumably wife has died)
1939 Alfred Claude Bates & Mary Ann Latham (After 1939 is when Mary A went to housekeep for the next person?)
1945 Alfred C & Arthur B Bates
1947 Arthur B, Brenda G & Alfred C Bates (Arthur who joined the RAF?)
1950 Arthur B Bates
1955 Arthur & Kathleen Bates (the Kath who married the Canadian?)
1960 Alfred C & Arthur B Bates

The following fits in with what you have said so looks pretty definite the Mary Ann Latham at 32 Denville Crescent is the correct one.

Kathleen Bates born 5.8.1933 travelled on the Empress of France on the 3rd April 1958 to Canada. Her address is 32 Denville Crescent, Bordesley Green, B9, occupation is shorthand typist.

Also she returns to England 9.9.1960 as Kathleen Robinson born 3.8.1933, occ: Secretary, Address, 32 Denville Crescent, Bordesley Green East, B9.

Suzanne that is great, I'm sure that is her,Shera, the 1950 address will be correct, that didn't come up on my electoral roll search,but Nellie is Micks nan and her husband James - Nan lived at Harcourt Road following her and Jims return from Coalville, where they were during the war as Jim did Top Secret war work there - never did find out what he did! Jim died early in 1964, leaving nan a widow, she stayed at Harcourt Road until she was taken into hospital in 2006 and subsequently died the same year in a Nursing Home here in Tamworth. I think like her mom, she must ahve had a hard life, Donald,her only son, died aged 50 too, history repeating itself, and I get the impression that he was a heavy drinker, as were his parents and that nan sometimes struggled for money, I know she did some cleaning and laundry work when dad was small.Lets hope its not a family trait as hubby is 48 now.
Astonian, thanks for your interest, there were a lot of Lathams around I know!!

everything becomes a lot clearer now, think I had just looked at so many, I'd confused myself and couldn't see the wood for the trees!

Mike that looks as if it could be it - nan said they went across the fields to where he worked.
I will watch for next years Open Day and take Owen to it, it will interest him and its quite close to us
