Hi everybody
when everybody finished with the tin baths what did you do with them ? Also does anybody recall mr bill langdon the bathroom specialist he also sold every think from a washer to the complete bath room sweet and his first ever shop started in birmingham
on spring hill oppersite the spring hill lidary and of course bulpitts he was right there until the end before the buldozers came in then he went to big larger premises the crown picture house ickneild port rd and now the family with is name have come to worcestshire and still selling bathrooms suites
did any of you ever bought a bath room suite from old bill langdon senior the langdons have been around birmingham for decades one of his son in=laws worked for me on my pubs and doors so have you got a langdon suite or you did have one

A relative of mine who is a builder knew the Langdon family very well, from their early days in business, espeically John one of the sons.. He took me to see there showroom at the converted picture house. That was amazing. Four poster baths,you have never seen anthing like it, kitchens also. They showed us a kitchen that Trevor Francis the Blues player had ordered. That was amazing, but I am going back almost 25 years ago.

i have known the langdons family for fifty years at least the father started with nothink and built an empire i used to go to the crown picture house when i was a lad and my wife was born directly across the road in clarke st he stated with a very little shop in spring hill
he was always busy there but he was limited to the bath he could get in his shopthen the area clearance came and he sort the opportunety to expand his show room also i knew john as well he had baths for every -one fit for kings and queens he was king of all the bath room s
if he had,t got it he would certainly get you one

Isn't it LANDON?

Over 50 years ago Bill Landon Senior had a dream of owning a bathroom showroom, where customers could freely walk around bathroom settings and truly picture themselves in the latest corner bath or shower cubicle. It seems like madness nowadays but this was truly innovative then and in the early 1970’s he saw his dream come true when he bought the former Crown Cinema in Ladywood, Birmingham. Never before had customers been able to physically see how a bathroom setting would look in their own homes and the showroom became the largest in Europe, covering 7,000 square metres and displaying up to 300 bathrooms.
Sadly after Bill Landon Senior passed away in 2004 and his wife, Rosa, in 2005, Bill Landon Junior and the remaining family Directors decided to sell the premises and close the doors on the business in June 2006.
But the Landon heritage is set to continue, in Droitwich Spa, as Bill Landon Junior’s sons are to continue the family tradition, which has been in existence since Bill Landon Senior and his brother set up business in a yard in Steward Street in 1946.
Essentially the name ‘Landon’ is synonymous in the bathroom world with a family business, and this new venture, by the third generation of the family, wants nothing more than to carry on the family tradition and the values associated with it.
Their new premises are in Ombersley Way, Droitwich Spa f[next to the train station].

You are correct as regards the name, it is Landon.Glad the family business is continuing.I wish them well.

I am sure Landons original shop was on Monument Rd near the Edgbaston Picture House and not at Springhill.

that was after he left spring hill he moved up to monument rd
for or less oppersite the edegbastom pic; house then he eventualy moved into the crown picture house and oppersite the glass blowers arms
he was at the little shop oppersite bulpitts on the spring hill side
and he was there long before winnie attwell came on the record scene playing her joe ann on the old 48.s best wishes astonian ;;

Astonian, there is an advert in the Birmingham Mail tonight - 7th March 2009 - Landons Luxury Bathrooms, 972 Tyburn Road, Erdington, Birmingham. B24 OTL (next to Lidl). It has got to be the same family don't you think?

sory i missed this thread before now on the subject of bill landon
i did not know about the opening of this store mainly i don,y get the mail here
in the village but what i do know is they have openend up in worc [ droitwich ]
its only a very small shop with bathrooms in its smaller than there very first shop this one in droitwich i pass it from time to time next time i am passing i will go in and have a chat to ever running the shop and make enquireies abot the family
as i know one or two of them personally[ family members ] and i will asked about that shop and come back to you on it ok, it appears the family are doing the old fellow
graciously proud by carrying onthat name

bill landon owned a small yard in freeth street around 1966/1968 my farther owned the shop opposite the crown picture house at the time and bill was a regular customer and can remember him telling us constantly about his dream to own the old crown and it was something of a running joke, i remember bill well because of his large orders for tins of ye older oak ham which at the time was quite a luxury
 
I have been to Landons new place today which is in Dodford on the way to Bromsgrove. I got talking to Darren who is Bills grandson and he was telling me that Bill was friends with a Councillor who let him know when houses were going to be demolished so Bill could go around and photo them. He had so many photos of Ladywood that he kept I wish I knew what had happened to them all. I will have to ask him.
