LANE family (Aston Juxta) - early 1800's

My interest is the LANE family, and I hope you are able to assist in my family history research. My family emigrated to Australia in 1852 from Birmingham, and I am trying to build the family tree from a very fragmented oral history, and a growing paper trail.

Any information you have about the following branch would be most helpful:

William LANE who married Sarah CARTER @ Aston Juxta in 1826. William was a TEA DEALER & lived @ New John Street, Birmingham.

Apparently he can't be found on the Census in 1841.

They had at least 3 children born/baptised @ St Phillips Cathedral Birmingham.
1. William Foster LANE b. 1828
2. Samuel Mitton LANE b. 1830 (went to Australia - my family line)
3. Thomas Hodgetts LANE b. 1834.

I am living in the Scotland at the moment and thought it would be a opportune time to undertake some UK family research,

Thanks in advance,

Mike Lane

Little snippets for you. There was a family of Lanes living in The Ridgeway Erdington, NO 261 APPROX Fathers name Charles they had two daughters one called Peggy also a family of Mittons living in The Ridgeway I think she was a widow with two children Billy and Margaret NO 313. MOST OF THESE PEOPLE CAME FROM ASTON.
TEA MERCHANTS There was a Tea Merchants on the corner of Victoria road, Sutton Coldfield, HAVE NO IDEA OF THEIR NAMES BUT YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIND THE ADDRESS AND CO- IN THE DIRECTORY 1990s. gOOD LUCK ...Cat

I have only just started my search, for my maternal grandmother's family. Their name is/was Lane, and they originated in the Aston area. My grandmother, born in 1922, was from Pugh Road in Aston, and her father's name was Harry, although he was deceased at the time of my grandmother's wedding in 1946 - I'm not in possession of his birth certificate yet, but will try and keep you posted if you like.

Good luck

Donna

hi mikeandre
just seen your thread regarding the lane family of
aston ,and they are coming from astom
your grand parents living in pugh rd
well i was friends with a lane family
when we was kids,i know the girl was called
caroline she was my child hood sweet heart
her brothers name i just cannot remember
but the reason i have mentioned this it is because
they lived in the top end of upprt thomas street
at the victoria rd end and pugh rd was about one
qaurter of a mile up the rd which is reasonable close
so it could be that there parents may be or have
been related sorry i do not know there parents
name but there was only one family of lanes in
upper thomas st we all went to upper thomas st
school in the 40.s
so it may be worth checking upper thomas st
cencus records around that period
best of luck in your research
best wishes astonian ;;;

Hi Donna,
Thanks for taking the time to email. I am looking for any information about Lanes, in the early 19th century in the Aston area. So if you come accross anything, I would love to know.
My family line did emigrate to Australia in the 1850s, their may have been arms left behind. Super keen to track family line back.
Hopefully I will hear from you with exciting discoveries,
Mike

Will do - and I also have Lanes in Australia, although they left much later, post WWII. Now wouldn't that be a coincidence!
