If it's in Bham suburbs then possibly farm land.

Click on magnifying glass. Put in your road and a choice of maps will appear on the right. Use those.
If all else fails post your road name here and we.will look for you.

Google Maps can go back as far as 2007. But fortunately historical maps can be overlaid. I'd recommend following @pjmburns advice in #3 The National Library of Scotland is well worth investigation and practicing finding the maps at an age and scale you want.

But paper maps are invaluable, the old 6'' OS series and 1847 Tithe maps are full of historical information once hunted down.

The National Archives Newspapers online. Some go back to the times of the inclosures and very old ownership of land.
