I am desperately trying to find more information on my great grandfather Samuel Lamb. He was born in c1864 in Birmingham. He is only shown on one census that being in 1911 as a lunatic in an asylum on the Isle of Wight. His wife, Lilian (nee Hubbleday) & children, one of them being my grandfather, Claudian Lamb, lived at 83 Tower Street at the time of the 1911 census. There is no mention of them on the 1901 census. My family have no knowledge what happened to him or why he ended up in an asylum.

Hi Sarajay

I have found a record of a baptism at St Martin's 9th September 1864.
Samuel Lamb: Abode: Workhouse - Mother Emma Lamb - single woman

This is a possibility why you can't find him?

Emma Jane Lamb married William Yates in 4 Jul 1869 at St Phillips
1871 census records Emma J Yates B1844 Warwickshire , William H Yates B1846 Yorkshire and Samuel Yates born 1865 Warwickshire
They are living at Pope Street 8 house 11 court and William is a metal smith

Thanks again

Sarajay, you might like to have a look on familysearch.org if you haven't done already. there are christening records for Samuel and then further down the list, for all of Samuel and Lillians children, except for Claudian - but there is a listing for a Claudia that fits all except the gender!!
With regard to Samuels incarceration on the Isle of Wight, on the 1911 records - also on familysearch - it says he was in the Newport area of I of W, you could try contacting the Isle of Wight NHS trust and asking them what the institution was and if there are any records from there.
