Kings Norton; where is this?

Kings Norton Sue

Hi everyone, this is an oil painting for sale (£3,350!) of Kings Norton but i can’t imagine the location. What do you think? Is it imaginary? Is the Lint Brook, Rea or another? Thanks for looking. Sue

Well there is a stream crossing under the road to the north , but no cottages marked by thye side of the road between it and the church

I don’t think there can be much doubt that it is King’s Norton as it is a well-known artist and the location is given in the descriptions. However the position of the Church of St Nicholas is probably positioned to suit the artist. Maybe also the stream and cottages.
There was a stream by a lane near the Reservoir just above the reservoir shown on Mike’s map, but artistic license would have to be used.

I agree Pedro that your ,map (c1902?) shows cottages in the correct position. However the artist (according to the link given in th efirst post) died in 1888, and my earlier map was mid 1880s. It is of course possible it was a painting made just before his death , but they do not look very new in the painting. More likely artist's licence

Here is a map c1882 . The school may have been relatively new. Would think that if it is church lane, then the cottage would be about where the school was then

A nice old fashioned Xmas card type picture but as an artist myself I'm somewhat confused by the perspective, the stream appears to be running considerably downhill with a wooden fence to stop it overflowing on the bend o_O. It's as though it's back to front and the stream should be the cart track.
