Hi Humprey and mike
I have just been readin the recent thread of g,s about the lake at the rear of kensinton road
with great intrest as i know the selly park inhabitants well almost i beleive i did should i say
whilst i was reading new and past members threads, i was trying to rack my brains about
the biggest house up kenseninton road was mr and mrs filmore and humprey just comfirmed to me it was in fact
Clee house of kensinton road and behind his house and in fact is garden was the lake
If you look at the old threads you will read what i said then about the number of gardeners he employed
along with cleaning ladies and two cooks one from an old friends mother inlaw
he had a granny flat above for his mother inlaw she was one of mr filmores cooks
the grounds of the filmore ground stretches was back
there was a big lodging house next door to mr and mrs filmorehouse
i knew them personaly for about 15 years prior to them dying and i got to know there daughter as well
she was well to do in the city and of solihull i got on well with her
the filmores always gave me a christmas box for myself and for my wife i was sad to see them passing over
the house beyond the filmores clee house was medium size houses
from out side the filmores house you could see right over the convent wall and the nurmerous graves of the
past sisters of the society and yes was correct it was a daily run for these lost souls of men folk
of the roads homeless and i would see them coming back down out of the convent with a foil of fod
its clee house you are looking for and you should get the info from the filmores name and address
i used to go there very regular and our friend at the bottom of the hill the last bunolow i recall him as well
also the sisters of the nunns retirements house which was previous on bristol road
bought from a well know estate agents whom is a welknown name is personal home
he sold it to the nunns of the church whom i got to know very personaly
but i will shut up now but clee house is where you want to look into
and most certainly the title of mr filmore he was a big architect for the city in his younger days
I would like to say that when the filmores pased away there daughter eventualy sold it off
and it was some one whom done there home work on it and knew about it
He was a doctor whom started to demolish the place and he was going to turn it into a nursing home
but because of the nature and history of this huge house and it was a huge house beleive me
internal and externaly with the lake running all around the place you could walk all around it
but i was very happy to hear the big chiefes of the birmingham council stopped him and refused him permission
good old birmingham council that got some think right at last
best wishes Astonian,,,, alan,,,
