Joseph Taylor, 8 Cranby Street Birmingham

BeverleyD

Brummie babby
My Great Grandfather, Joseph Taylor, lived at No8 and had a son named Philip who died in WW1. Does anyone remember the family please. I believe he married twice, was an illegal Bookie at some point in the 1900's. He also had 3 daughters, Francis, Violet and Daisy. Any information would be gratefully received
Many thanks

Listed at no. 7 on ERs and 1939 Register.

First wife was Sarah Carr, second wife was Frances Sarah Cutler. There are other children than the ones you've mentioned.

Not sure if there's a connection but the were betting offices called Cutler I think.

Philip Carr, William Thomas, Joseph - mother Sarah Carr.

Frances Sarah, Elizabeth Daisy, Edith May, Joseph (again), Violet Hannah & Alfred Albert - mother Frances Sarah Cutler.

Thank you so much for this information, you’ve answered loads of questions and now created more that I want to know as I have no information. Thank you!

I can have a bit more of a general look but it might be better if say what you'd like to know.

One thing, his first wife was Emma Carr, not Sarah as I said above. They married 15 Nov 1897.

Emma died in late 1900, as did her new born son Joseph.

Frances Sarah Cutler's parents - William Cutler & Frances Coley were both born in Bham but got married in Hackney on Christmas Day 1876.

He lists his father's name as Thomas but he appears to William's grandfather and he was actually the illegitimate son of one of Thomas' daughters.

Thank you!
Being cheeky now, but do you have any more info regards Joseph Taylor?

Joseph Taylor appears to have been born in 1873, the son of a Joseph Taylor and a Sarah Fenn. He possibly had as many as 4 brothers and 7 sisters.

On the baptism of at least one son he was listed as a blacksmith. I think his death was reg. Jun qtr 1949.

There is a cremation at Lodge Hill in May 1949 of a Joseph Taylor
