Jones William & Fanny Dallow

Brock

master brummie
My great grandparents were named William Jones (born 1859, Fradley, Staffs) & Fanny Dallow (born 1857, Droitwich). They married in 1883 in Kidderminster and settled down to married life in Birmingham living in the Bordesley district of the Aston parish of Birmingham.
They had 6 children :- Rose Alice, born 1887. Thomas, born 1888.
William, born abt 1891, Albert born abt 1894, Amy born abt 1896 & Eveline (known as Eva) born abt 1897, all were born in Birmingham.
William died whilst at work (he was a railway clerk) in 1903 & Fanny died soon after in 1906.
Following the death of their mother, Rose & Eveline went to live with their Aunt Mary (their mother's sister) in Kidderminster. Rose later emigrated to Canada & it is thought that Eveline remained in Kidderminster for the rest of her life.
Where did the other children go to live following the death of their mother?
The only facts known about the family after then are :- William married a lady named Nell or Nellie -- they lived in Hob Moor Road, Yardely & had 3 sets of twins.
Albert married a lady named Gertrude and they had a daughter named Florence who became a nurse. They possibly lived in Rylands Road, Sparkhill.
Amy possibly married a man by the name of Carl.
If anyone can shed any light on the family -- where they lived and what became of them I would be most grateful for any help please.
With many thanks,
Brock.

Re: The children of William Jones & Fanny Dallow

Hello Brock,
Oh dear , Jones is such a difficult name to reseach :)
In 1930 -William Jones and his wife Nellie Louisa were living at 36 The Ring , off Hob Moor Rd, Yardley.

They are at the same Add: in 1935 . Also listed is Ivy Evelyn Jones .

Will, Nellie & William Thomas Jones are living at 409 Hob Moor Rd in 1939.

Ivy Evelyn Jones was born in 1907. It does not appear that she is a twin.

:D Bo, you are brilliant!! Thank you so much, that info is just wonderful.
Can I be cheeky please and ask where you were able to find such info?

Re: The children of William Jones & Fanny Dallow

:) Lloyd, that's great, thank you so much.
I only know how to obtain info from census returns and from obtaining birth, marriage & death certificates, or perhaps wills.
How do you go about trying to search for info for the 1900's such as this?
Any clues would be very much appreciated.

Thank you so much, I am very grateful.
Brock.

Re: The children of William Jones & Fanny Dallow

Unsure if this is your Albert and Gertrude

Albert Jones Marr 1913 in Aston to Gertrude L Dyer

1927 Florence Jones born Birmingham Mothers maiden name Dyer.

Maybe a coincidence.

Could you give details of any second or Middle names of William & Fanny's children if known please or even an intital.

Re: The children of William Jones & Fanny Dallow

I have a subscription to https://www.midlandshistoricaldata.org, where I can view Birmingham electoral rolls up to 1939. Not every year, but a selection - 1918/20/25/30/35/39 as I recall. A few earlier ones too, but not so many were eligible to vote then - only house/land owners I think.

Re: The children of William Jones & Fanny Dallow

Bo, I shall definitely check that out, thanks a million!
Sadly, I do not know of middle names for the children of William & Fanny Jones other than Rose whose middle name was Alice but that is the one child that I have been lucky enough to trace in any depth so it is of no help in this instance.
I'm not very experienced in researching for entries during the 1900's so do not really know how to tackle it. It's such a pity that our laws mean that our old records are not available sooner as I would love to be able to view the census returns of the first half of the 1900's!

Thanks again,
Brock.

That is very interesting, thanks Lloyd, I didn't know about this type of records.

Re: The children of William Jones & Fanny Dallow

Brock, the 1911 Census should give you details of the children .

1911 census can be found on website Find my past.
Dont forget you can search telephone books too on Ancestry.

Birmingham has Electoral Registers.
Remember , should you not be able to find some Rellies, that Females were not able to vote until 1918 and had to be over the age of 30.
This was lowered to age 21 in 1928. Lowered to 18 years in 1969 I think
I doubt you will find an online Electoral Registers for Kidderminster though

Also click on your name to view your messages :)

Re: The children of William Jones & Fanny Dallow

I have tried the 1911 census but could only find entries for Eveline & Rose who were living with their aunt in Kidderminster, sadly I couldn't find suitable entries for any of the others.
I really must thank you for your kind help -- I only joined this site last night & I am amazed at the amount of help that I have had from so many people -- you are all very kind, thank you so much.
