Hi
I am having difficulty finding the birth certificate of my husbands grandmother Martha Jones born 22/7/1895. Her father is stated on her marriage certificate as Edward Jones - bricklayer. Her children were told that she was brought up by nuns, somewhere in Birmingham when her father died and her mother remarried.
Can anyone help? Any suggestions gratefully received!
Thanks
Debra

Re: Martha Jones and Edward Jones

Hi

do you know her mum's name and if she had remarried by 1901?

Re: Martha Jones and Edward Jones

I've found a birth recorded on Freebmd for a Hettie Martha Jones in the 1st Qtr of 1896 in Birmingham. Her birth may not have been registered for a few months.

It may be worth considering, I know her name isn't Hettie but it often happens that people use their middle name. I discovered today that an aunt of mine who I had always known as Phylis was actually baptised Bridget.

Re: Martha Jones and Edward Jones

Thank you all for your help it is fantastic! Unfortunately none of her surviving children know anything about the mother. Its hard to believe that they didnt even ask her name. It appears that their mother (Martha) had a very hard life in the convent and did not talk much about her past. Her daughters both came up with the name Edward and this matches the marriage certificate. Fingers crossed something will slot into place.
