hi folks wonder if anyone can help me please...on the 1851 census i have my 4xgt grandfather john harrington born 1781 living in nechells...it states he was born in glostershire (this is how its spelt) then after that what looks like witcham and it is transcribed as that...the only witcham i can find is in cambridgeshire so i am now totally confused...any help would be most welcome..

many thanks

john harrington....gt gt gt gt grandfather 1851 heneage st.jpghi carol thanks for that info it could quite easily be either of those places...geography was always my least favourite subject lol..i am posting the 1851 census for john harrington in case you see something different...click twice and it will enlarge..

Looking at parishes in Gloucestershire it is most likely to be Witcombe. If I have the right person on the 1841 census (with his daughter Susannah) then it says he was born in Birmingham - just to muddy the waters even more.

john harrington gt gt gt gt grand..1841 nechells..jpghi janice....thank you for that info i shall take it as witcombe then for now...just looked at the 41 census again and although the writing is not good it looks to me as though it says no to the question if born in the county..i cant see an s on the end...i am really pleased to have got this far back as some people are not so lucky...

thanks again janice..

Sorry if I mislead you. Have you found Susanna and Mary's baptism records? Also Susanna's marriage?

harrington baptisms.jpgmorning janice...to be honest i confuse myself more often than not...i have johns daughter susannas marr to james rowe and found these baptisms in birmingham all dated 1832...whats baffling me is that where you put occupation its got single woman..dont quite understand that part as i was hoping to see glass maker or blower..

also found a marr for john harrington to susannah bannister rowley regis 1806. i have also found a bapt for a john harrington oct 1820 dudley worcs parents john and sussanah harrington...my 3x gt grandfather henry harrington was born 1812 dudley worcs his father was john harrington glass marker/blower so could he and john be brothers..but a long way off proving if i have the right connections..

thanks janice..

Lyn the third Harrington baptism is for John son of Jane Harrington, single woman, so perhaps whoever wrote the register had this in mind for all of the Harrington baptisms for that day, just a thought...........

hi bewdley yes that did cross my mind...whoever wrote down the info forgot to put johns occupation which as far as my research goes is most unfortunate...all for the same address though of dartmouth st...maybe jane is johns sister....

thanks bewdley...
