JERVOISE COUNTY PRIMARY SCHOOL, Weoley Castle. Jervoise Rd. Council Sch. opened 1934 by Birm. C.B.C. Accom. 432 JM, but used as JI until I dept., accom. 338, opened 1936. Accom. for 230 in Weoley Castle Congregational Church used 1938–40. Nursery class opened in building 1942. Name changed 1954. Accom. 1961: 14 classrooms, 2 nurseries, 2 halls.

I can remember having knitting lessons in junior school. I was good at it because I had been taught how to knit by my mum. If I had some wool and knitting needles now I can just about remember how to knit ‘plain’ but not ‘purl’ ...
 
Similar to plain Phil, but you point the needle towards you for purl !

The school seems to have played an active part in the war effort. Viv.

Jervoise was the name of one of the medieval families who owned Dudley Castle. Many of the roads in that area have old Dudley related names as Weoley Castle was the 'weekend country cottage' for Dudley which is the reason the old main entrance faces north.
