Re: Henry jelf

Hi Astonian
I had a look for the family in 1901 and another of their sons was Henry Charles Jelf B1890 Bham.

In the 1911 he is living at 1 Court 1 House Powell Street, Aston Manor as a nephew to the Hughes'
Thomas Hughes B1879 Bham - Dealer
Maria Hughes B1879 Bham - Wife - Button Cutter
Thomas Hughes B1904 Bham - son
Henry Jelf B1891 - Nephew - Labourer.

Is this is him? If so, I can have a look further forward for him.

Re: Henry jelf

HI SUZANNE
What can i say to you ;you are a gem;is there more can you tell me
as i am investigating the missing henry jelf it appears that there may be a very shock to my system
being that you have discovered a hughes ; was there a mary ann hughes connected to henry
where does the nephew come in i know of a thomas hughes whom according to the records went to ireland at the age of three and this lady mary ann hughes as traveled thriough with all the jelfs
was she married to henry or some think like that she as appeared in all the cencus,s i know there was a charles henry jelf whom inherited the fathers and mothers wealth and he passed a load of the bussiness to dear old ivy
is sister but i am not sure about the henry charles version
the named brothers are correct and they was coffee house merchants[ tea rooms ]
by the way any idea of the thomas the dealer bussiness was ;
i hope you can find and tell me any more on it ;

Re: Henry jelf

Mary Ann mentioned in the 1911 was the wife of George Jelf and they had been married for 25 years. Searching for a marriage I found a George William JALFS married to a Mary Ann Hughes 1885 Aston ref JAS 6d 360 although the transcribed record said 6d 350 for William but on looking at original image it is 6d 360.

I will have a look for Henry Charles Jelf.

Re: Henry jelf

Astonian

Henry C Jelf married Alice Biddle in 1912 Aston ref 6d 626
Interestingly on the same page is a marriage for a George Jelf to a Lily Allsopp, maybe Henry's brother?

I couldn't find Henry and Alice Jelf on the electoral rolls together and then I found a death for Henry C Jelf in 1918 aged 29 Bham. I think there was one child born from this marriage. - Henry Jelf B1913 Aston MMN Biddle. Don't know if any of this ties up with your people?

Re: Henry jelf

Thomas Hughes the Dealer is listed as a Fruiter, Own Account, on 1911 details.

Re: Henry jelf

Hi Astonian

Here is another marriage to consider for a Henry C Jelf in 1919 Aston to a Beatrice E Pendrey and they are living at 91 Alma Street from 1930 to 1939.
In 1922 they are at 4 court 23 Park Lane also at this time living with them is a Charles Henry Jelf.

At 901 Tyburn Rd in 1935 are George William Jelf and Mary Ann Jelf and Ivy Jelf. (George William & Mary Ann Jelf are also listed at 19 Lichfield Rd in 1930, 1935)
in 1939 Mary Ann, Ivy and Lilian Jelf, also Philip Hinton, Albert Wainwright.
1945 Mary A and Ivy Jelf
1950 Ivy jelf, Harold Lloyd.
1955 Ivy Jelf and Harold Lloyd.

Hope this helps:)

Re: Henry jelf

hi suzanne
what can i say i think you have hit the jack pot for me ;
sorry i have not replyed before now as i have been away for the last coupe of days and just got back this evening and henry charles is the man and the other one you mentioned was charles henry is younger brother
was the first one you gave me they are both family henry being the oldest of the two
and the rest of the family you had named are also the rest of the family
but what i am intrigued by his the mention of phillip hinton living with them
which i have not heard before tonight ;
my grand mother ;and grand father hinton i knew about and he was a police officier
but i had heard quite afew years back that some-one had spoken of my mother had a half brother ;
so i am wondering whether or not this philip is the half brother or notor would it make my mother is cousin ;
or is it my grand mothers brother [ phillip hinton ]as my gran was hinton before marrying jelf ;
do you know of any age for this guy ?. not to worry if you do not
thanks a million sue ; may be one day we will meet on one of the forum get togethers
and then i will buy you a large drink for all your hard work ad valuable time
best wishes as always astonion ;; [ alan ]

There is a Phillip Hinton born 1909 in Aston, in fact he is the only Philip Hinton coming up in the seach born around 1910 in the 1911 census. By 1911 he is listed as a Nurse Child living with
Harriet Plimley B1874 Brosely, Salop - she is head of the house and single

The address is 46 Prince Albert Street, Small Heath.

I will see if I can find any thing else out about him:)

Re: Henry jelf

HI SUZANNE
In the latter thread you had found henry with charles in alma st aston ;well that beared fruit to me
so that one is corect ; also mary - ivy are living at tyburn rd [ mother and daughter ]
and ivy and harold lloyed they was man meets girl [ lovers ]
harold was a cobbler by trade and had a shop on lichfield rd and decided to live with her for many years
right up to the the 70,s 80;s before moving back to liverpool he was only living off her
and after her money it caused a great rift between the jelfs brothers
and my grand father ernest made a vow in the fiftys never to cross the thesh hold at the coffee shop on tyburn rd ever agai i his life unless she got shut of him or until he let the house hold
sadly ivy died in 88 ; my grand father died in the 70,s
lloyed skid daddled back to liverpool
and i have ivys will and it states she still left him money in her will and it was sent to an address in liver pool which i have an addrees from the will she made out
i thought i would tell you yet again you was bang on target ;and i have sent for phillips certi;
to learn whom was is mother and i will work on albert wainwright as a kid i have heardd them mention this name way back then
many thanks sue ; have a nice day best wishes alan ;

Re: Henry jelf

hi suzanne
how are you fine i hope as i aint to bad myself
i am just readmitteing on an old thread regarding henry jelf you done for me i was quite concerned about phillip hinto with in the jelfs relationship
as you pointed ut regarding phil hinton about sending for his birth certi, i think i shall be ordering on line today
following a conversation of my mother with a younger brother whom i had not seen in years discussing the jelfs and a story about a young chap whom they say was that my
mother had a half brother well the coinincence in my eyes is that phillip hinton as to be the son of bertha hinton and that my grand father could have been marrid before he met
bertha victoria hinton and she may have had this child phillip hinton long before she had my mother joyce ivy bearrice jelf
but i need to do his get a marrige certi, of ernest jelf and victoria hinton along with the birth of phil hinton
ernest and berthavictoria was marrid in st martind churcharound the 1925 year would it be possible for you or some one else do a check on st martins church for any records of this
marrige betwen them it would really put a seal on this for me i am going to telford next week i am attending my god mothers funneral she was ninety four years of age
had she been alive she may have been able to fill me on these dteails the other lady her sister is blind and in late eightys but her memory is zilths
she as a daughter whom is acousin to me whom is getting on but i do not know whether she knows any think i have not met her in thirty years along
with another cousinwas an skakesopearian actor at stratford many years ago whom is aunt flosies adopted son i have not seen him the same numberof years
still i am very please that you done that thread for me and puting phillip in the frame when i go to brum tomorrow i cantell my younger brother
is surname was hinto its as to be the missing half brother and she must have been married before and ernest was probaly married to the missing mystry lady wich was recently said a mary jelf because there was always only been one lady in the family and that was ivy
so you see sue or anybody else whom may be able to do a st martins check for refence no on this marrige i really appreciate it
have a nice day every body best wishes astonion
