JACOB WINTER FIRST WIFE AND FAMILY
Jacob Winter married Tilley Cohen on 30th August, 1906 and had three children. Jacob gives his address as 36 Holloway Road, Birmingham; the same address as Tilley. He also states that his father Judah Abraham Winter was still alive and was a Tailor. Tilley’s father, Louis Cohen, was a Provision Merchant. There is a Maier Winter (Slipper Maker) as witness. I would love to know if he was related? He had a brother called Aaron who was a Tailor and children called Simon and Rose so I am doubtful about that. As normally the names are not repeated for living close relatives. The other witness was Hyman Walorski from Warsaw. He was a Tailor and in 1911 he emigrated to Canada, becoming a Manufacturer. Both Maier and Hyman lived in Bristol Street at the time.
Tilley died on 21st November, 1914 at home from child related issues. The witness was her brother E. Cohen who lived at 39 Wrentham Street, Birmingham.
The children born and died in Birmingham or Redditch were as follows:
Harry was born in 1907 and died in 1990 In Redditch. He married Gladys Mary Long. They had one child called Anthony.
Louis was born in 1908 and married Edith Brightstein in Bristol on the 2nd August, 1931. They had two children - Anthony and Leon. Louis died on 10th November, 1994 and is buried in Witton Cemetery; plot W-4-49 along with Edith, who died on 6th October, 1981.
Abe was born in 1912 and died on 6th February, 1945. He had joined up in the Second World War but had been invalided out due to tuberculosis. He is buried in Witton Cemetery; plot E-1-564.
