Hi

Could anyone tell me if there were any iron works in Birmingham? After retrieving several certificates from the late 40's and mid 50's, a relative's occupation was given as "armature winder", "scrap metal dealer" and "metal works machinist".

could anyone shed any light?

many thanks
Suzy

Doesn't necessarily have to be 'iron works'. Armature winder could be in many factories producing electric motors, GEC or Lucas come immediately to mind but there were many more.
Scrap metal dealers were all round Birmingham occupying small bombed sites to huge yards and railway sidings. E

Could have been a metal spinner...? Bulpitts and Buncher & Haseler both employed such people, amongst many others.
