illsley jack and ellen jelf [aston ]

Astonian

gone but not forgotten
Hi Guys
i am trying to do some research on a couple whom i have learnt
of today by the name of jack illsley of aston; whom met a girl from claines
whom was the daughter of a farmer and land owner by the name of ellen jelf ; the mothers name was also ellen jelf she was married to samuel jelf
and she had a brother named william ; jelf whom i know about whom was my was my great grand father but i am really intrested in jack illsley
and that name comes to mind and i was wondering whether or not is there any connection to the old illseley family that kept the coal yard in church lane aston
by victoria rd along lichfield rd because we have met a lady whom says her mother was a jelf . ellen jelf and illsley was the father
so did young ellen jelf the daughter of sam ; married a mr jack illseley
possible around the late 1800,s early 1900.s
if any one could shed a little light on it it would be much appreciated it
this later did confirm that one of the jelfs sold guns in carrs lane or around the old steel house lane tiny shops way back then ; but personaly i do remember the name jelf myself as a gun seller in carrs lane in the early fiftys
and she said they joined forces with some one else in partnership
i know it sounds i am expecting alot of info ; but any little snip its will set me right
one again many thanks guys for your valuable time ; best wishes Astonian ;;;

HI smtr
many thanks for your valuable time and for your most valuable information;
which i cannot thank you enough ;i will be down loading this great info ; tommorrow morning
and i will be travelling down to brum with it to show my brother and my daughter
so thats how jelf and isleys was gun sellers in brum as gun maker isleys was finnance by jelfs
as my great grand father was a wealthy land owner in worcester which i already knew that bit and of ellen ,maria and i knew jelfs was selling gns in carrs lane in he earlyist time i can recall seeing there shop was about 1953-4
but i never knew any of the jelfs family when i wa a kid
never knew of his brothers at all we used to go to new cannal street regular and mom visting the two stories
high full with all kinds of provisions for shos around brum and for there personal shops
by 1933 i have counted 33 shops they had ;
smtr ; i am well chuffed with your info ; and you have got it right
the right people ; and the right times of the period ; which was relayed to me by a lady whom as become great friends with my daughter through there work and it was onlyby chance she asked my daughter her maiden name
and told her my name and told her whom my grand fathers family was jelf and she emediatly turned to her and said hello cousin as my mom is a jelf to and the exchange started to come through;
many thanks smtr ,best wishes Astonian;;

Re: jack illsley and ellen jelf [aston ]

HI SMTR
have you ay idea where this company may have been i know its a 64 dollar question thou ;
and lookingfor the needle in the hay stack ; but i would duly love to find out
she told my daughter that jelfs had the bussiness and isleys went into partnership with them ;
i know its sounds daft but i am not entirely full knowledge of such weapons as i am just learning
was there such a thing as a isley weapon do you know as i said i knew for definately jelfs was selling the guns down the old little carrs lane i remember those tiny little quait shop as they was there in those days '
i think there was about four or five little shops doing sporting acti;
some fishing and some withe the aresenal being displayed
one agan smtr for your researching and taking intrest on the thread and for the verication of my ancestors
and i think it was ellen whom owned the old cottage in honeybourne eversham
and that was kept in the jelf family for years mom was devastedvated when she leart her father sold the cottage
to another person out side the jelfs name family all her belonging and all her contribution of ellen is locked in the vaults of eversham abbey and as been for many years ; astonian;

Hi Astonian

I'm afraid I don't really know anything regarding the business premises and gun making trade but I am sure there are people on here with the knowledge to answer your questions:)
Have a good day.
