Looking at old photographs. It seems that my Nan had/ran a grocers in Icknield Port Road way back. Her name Was Ellen Broadbent. Anyone remember the shop?

any ideas as to what number it was as ickneild port rd was full of grocery shops from one end to the other of ickneild from dudley rd and
monument rd or even which end of the port rd do you know ; even news paper shops and of course we had the big porn shop on the corner of the port rd and dudley rd ;and more to the question what year was it do you recall ? .

Thanks people. Sorry for the delay, not been on this site for years....Can't help with any details I'm afraid. All hearsay now as the relatives have all gone!
 
In 1955 Samuel and Ellen Broadbent lived at 249 Icknield Port Road. In the last directory online (1940) it is listed as a shop.
 
Shame - it's just to the left of the photo of the Queen's Head pub (No. 251) and Bridgewater's butchers (No.250) on the Old Ladywood website - might be worth contacting Mac Joseph to see if the original of his photo shows more to the left and maybe the shop - my ancestors once lived at 6/249 and 7/249 in Eleanor Terrace, the houses behind the shop.

I think my Mom was a barmaid in that pub there?
 
i had a mate in Icknield port road his name was David Southhall he had a brother older than him and two sister they where enamellers they were REl great family and spent many happy hours with them i lived in Grosvener street west next door but 2 from the pub and the Birmingham guild i worked at Frenches a few street away i have tried to contact Dave as we both used the ice rink regular if anyonr knows his whereabouts please let me know
 
Hi there, I am looking to see if anyone remembers the Cruickshanks family who used to live at 1 back of 281 Icknield Port Road, their names were Tom and Olive and their children were Maurice, Colin and Brenda. It would be nice to see if any remembers this family. They lived there from the 40's until the late 60's I think.
