Hustle - New Series

Charlie

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
New series of Hustle starts on Monday. Action takes place in London, FILMING took place in Birmingham.
Look out for Victoria Square, Brindley Place, Hyatt Hotel, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery etc...all cunningly disguised as being in London, with London buses and bus stops . They even built the main characters headquarters in a warehouse in Saltley - with a backdrop that made it look as though it's overlooking the Thames.
I guess Brummies are far too savvy to conned by this lot eh? Still, one of its stars is Adrian Lester - Birmingham born and bred.

evening charlie...happy new year...:) thanks for the tip off...will be watching it...

lyn..:)

It's amazing how often the back streets are being used these days - BBC1's Surviviors was also shot in and around Edmund Street - another scene featuring the Old Contemptibles and a glimpse of the Old Royal..

Might be off topic but quite a bit of the city shots in Survivors, (BBC1 Tuesday's 21:30) was shot in the city centre.

Hustle spotted filming the new (2011 I assume) series on Colmore Row (One Ten), Edmund Street and Gas Street in the last week or two. Only just started filing so likely to be around for some weeks I would imagine. One episode this new series is to be set in Birmingham, so no need to dress it up as London for that one.

There is currently a big filming outfit at the warehouse that used to be Carters on Talbot Way, Small Heath - well at least the double-decker 'diner' and a back car park full of other large trucks would seem to indicate as much. You could build some very big sets in there!

They've gone today, but apparently they were ther last week as well (I was on leave). Direction sign on the road junction says "Kudos" and guess what? That's who films Hustle (and Spooks)

Thanks for that Leslam. I am not a fan of Hustle but Pete is so it gives me an excuse to spend that time on the forum. Jean.

At least ONE of the episodes of the new series will be actually set in Birmingham (rather than the city being disguised as London). Apparently Robert Vaughn lives here when they're filming the series, in a canalside apartment.

Just watched Hustle - tonights episode was set in Birmingham. The bull, Selfridges, Victoria Square, the canalside area around Brindley Place? and the building on the corner of Navigation Street and Brunel Street were all shown - did anyone else watch it? :)

Yes Polly. I like the series. found it a bit confusing when they showed a scene in victoria Square, in front of the council house, supposedly in London , and then another scene , now set in birmingham, in the same square. It looked like the women's Dosh.com office was in the old new St signalbox
Mike

Mike, I didn't realise that Victoria Square has been used for London and Birmingham - that is a bit confusing!
I thought the 'Dosh for you office' was the building on the corner of Navigation St and Brunel St - on the opposite corner to the multi storey car park that looks like a red cage - although I have no idea what the building really is used for.
Did you recognise where the canal scene was shot?
:)

It was great seeing Brum on Hustle, They did us proud except for that woman trying to do our accent. Why do actors do a Black Country accent when trying to portray a brummie one:(
That scouse bar man in that London Bar running Brum down, made me so angry:redface:

Have to agree with you Mikejee it looked like the signal box in Navigation St to me also. but nevertheless a very entertaining programme with all its continuity errors to us brummies.

Was she not the one time hairdresser in Coronation St. and whatever she was supposed to be in Waterloo Road, my,my I can do a better accent than her without really trying :):):)

Polly
I think the office was that building you mention, which is the old signal box , though obviously the inside scenes were not shot there. The building is grade 2 listed. The canal scene was by gas st basin wasn't it, with the Broad st bridge just further down, though i must admit it must be 20 years since i was by the canal there.
mike

Mike, I have walked past that building many times but I never knew what it was or that it was listed.
When I was younger I used to get on/off the bus there and now I often park in that 'red cage' car park.

I didn't recognise exactly where the canal scene was because I am not very familiar with the area around the canal. I think I will have to go and have a look when the weather is better.

I thought that it portrayed Birmingham lovely, the flowers, the sunshine, canalside scene, floosie in the jacuzzi. In fact it worried me 'cause it looked to good to be true. I agree about the accent though.

Yes, I thought it looked good as well! So good, I considered booking a fortnight there.
Then again, perhaps not.... A walk down the ramp from the station brings you to scenes from Dickens.
I note that the definition of Palisade is "a steel or wooden fence, a defensive structure." What an appropriate choice of name for the place.
Couldn't have put it better myself........
