Humphries

knowlegable brummie
I am looking to confirm the parents of Edward Humphries (1790-1832) born in Ipsley possibly to James Humphreys (1752-1832) and Hannah Forrister. I am wondering if these are the correct family or there may have been other Edward and Hannah Humphries in Ipsley. All the children of James Humphreys and Hannah Forrister spell the name Humphreys except Edward is Humphries. Richard Humphries is born 8 years after Edward and his last name is spelt Humphries. I am wondering if perhaps Edward and Richard are born to different parents in Ipsley?

I don't see any problem on the face of it. There's a big gap between the eldest and youngest child but assuming Hannah is a similar age to James then it's not uncommon.

It is also possible that they were illiterate, so their names would have been spelt however the priest/vicar writing them at the time thought they should be spelt and they wouldn't have known any different.

Thanks so much for your insight. Appreciate it.

I did find a parental confirmation today so uncertainty resolved. Thanks for responding.
