Humphreys. 16 Wheeleys Road, Edgbaston

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
Frederick William HUMPHREYS (Musical Director of the Theatre Royal for 40 years until 1900) and his wife Mary (formerly the singer and actress Marie LONGMORE) lived at Rosemount, 16 Wheeleys Road, Edgbaston for many years and are included on the 1881 & 1891 Censuses. However, I cannot find them on the 1901 Census. Are they in the Kelly's Directories for this period please? Frederick died in 1909 and Mary in 1912.

Hi Rod, I noticed your knowledge of Whelleys Road,

I am very keen to find out about 76 Wheeleys Road, Edgbaston in early 1944, was it a residence or a restuarant in those days? and if it was a residence what restaurants were nearby?

Also to my knowledge there was no electoral role in 1944 so how can one find out who lived where?

Really would appreciate your assistance

Best wishes

Geoff

Hi, thanks for you reply, sounds very very interesting, but I am trying to narrow things down to 1943 to 1944, can you help a ex-brummie (born in 1944_) living in Italy

Best wishes

Geoff

Hi Geoff, best I can do is 1949, Kelly's shows a Michael Donellen at no. 76, nothing suggesting a restaurant anywhere in the road

Re: 76 Wheeleys Road

In 1945 the residents were Bridget DONELLAN, Irene E. FREEGARD, Joseph B. HACKER, Alfred R. HAINES, and Kathleen F. HARRIS. Hope that helps.

Chris, I've just noticed that I didn't thank you for your post in May 2008 ! Sorry about that - thank you.
