Hughes/Bayliss

Joanio

knowlegable brummie
Great grandfather William Hughes born Winson Green Brum 1839, eventually became a professional photographer and had premises in Sandpits, Parade, Garbett Street, and King Edwards Road, all Ladywood I think. He married Ellen Leahy from ~Cork and had children, Elizabeth, William, Lily, Kate, Michael Philip, and Francis.

He had a business up until 1909. He was also known as BAYLISS.

His business W H Hughes and W H BAYLISS

Does any of this info ring a bell. I'd love to find some old photos with perhaps his name above a shop, but having looked at several sites have never found any trace. I've never found his death either. Ellen died at an address in Livery St, in 1928.

Hi Pomgolian,
This death does look promising, will check it out, and thanks for the 1891 census which I already have. Sorry for late reply been to Edinburgh with granddaughters, had a smashing few days.
