Hughes Alice May

master brummie
I am trying to help a friend to find out about the above lady. She had a son Abdul Somed Aziz in 1946 and was registered in Coventry and the father being Abdul Aziz. The son was given up for adoption and all that the adopted mother told him that she was only about 16 at the time. She never married the father, but I have found a marriage to an Albert E Stanley in Coventry 4th quarter 1952 but I don't know if this is the same person. What I am trying to find out is a birth for the mother, but all I have to go on is the birth in Coventry. Any chance that someone could help. Many thanks

Re: Alice May Hughes

Hi Carolina: This could be Alice If she was born in 1929. which is possible if she was l6 when her son was born. This from Genes Reunited site Searching under Birth and Death category. ALICE MAY HUGHES England & Wales deaths 1837-2007 Collections fromGreat BritainCountryEnglandCountyStaffordshireYear1989Birth Year1929Event Quarter3DistrictSANDWELL.

Re: Alice May Hughes

There are no births registered in Coventry or even Warwickshire for Alice M Hughes for an extremely large timescale 1901-1940s

If the baby was adopted in Coventry the best place to start is with Coventry social services or the courts.

Jennyann,The lady who died in 1989 was possibly a married lady as there are no Alice M Hughes births matching her birthdate of May 1st 1929.

Re: Alice May Hughes

Jennyann and Alberta - many thanksI will advise them to contact Coventry Social Services.

Re: Alice May Hughes

Apparently the mother handed the child to the father to be brought up. Anyone having problems on Ancestry as I am putting info in Coventry, Warwickshire, England and I keep getting all USA info.

Re: Alice May Hughes

Carolina if you are searching Abdul Aziz you could be going forever for it is the equivelant of John Smith.
If the mother gave the child to the father and he in turn had him adopted there would still be court papers for the adoption.
Only the child will be allowed to see them.
Has the birth certificate of the child been obtained , this may have an address on that could be of help.
Also accessing information about the adoptive parents could help.

Carolina, the info that your friend was given must have been untrue. Alice M Hughes (as you have been told by mike) was on the 1945 electoral roll, the minimum age to vote in 1945 was 21 so she was at least 22 when her baby was born.

Contrary to what i posted about no Alice M Hughes in area i have found Alice M Hughes born 1919 Birmingham, mother Quinton.

Oh thank you so much a little bit of info and I can pass on. The mother must have had contact with the baby then for at least 1 year. Perhaps one of the other people mentioned in the electoral roles may still be alive. Carol

Violet Minnie Birch born Birmingham 1913 died unmarried in 1987, there is a tree entry on Ancestry but it is private so you will need to contact the owner.
