A team of archaeologists has excavated the Park Street burial ground, close to the city centre. In this webinar you’ll be able to hear about what they’ve discovered and what it tells us about life and death in Birmingham during the 19th century.
High Speed Two (HS2) is the new high speed railway for Britain. Before we build bridges, tunnels, tracks and stations, the largest archaeology programme ever undertaken in the UK is taking place along the line of route.
Our archaeology programme is continuing to unearth discoveries across our sites. To share information about these works and some of the exciting finds uncovered we are running a series of online archaeology events to support Heritage Open Days 2020.
Uncovering Park Street in Birmingham
Did you know that one of the biggest archaeological digs in the UK has been taking place in Birmingham? A team of archaeologists has excavated the Park Street burial ground, close to the city centre. In this webinar you’ll be able to hear about what they’ve discovered and what it tells us about life and death in Birmingham during the 19th century.
Towards the end of the webinar, you’ll get the chance to ask the team questions via a live Q&A session.

I thought it was an excellent programme.also last nights britains big dig is now available on i player...covers HS2 dig in london where 50000 bodies were unearthed...there will also be one for our own park st burial ground which as jim has already said will be aired on 22nd...i know that this one is not about birmingham but think its worth mentioning to those of us who are interested in general

Cold Feet, no not the TV series, my comment above was from memory of last weeks programme, but reading this weeks tv times no mention of Brum and more about St James in London promised, perhaps I got it wrong, has been known.

Hi Jim. According to the Radio Times both the London and the Birmingham sites are reported in tonight's programme. BBC 2 at 9pm.

really enjoyed last nights programme...these programmes are giving me an insight into something that has always troubled me and that is just how the bodies of the deceased are treated after they have been dug up....although i am still against them being removed from their resting places i do try to speak as i find and through these excellent progammes i can now see that they are treated with the utmost respect and the history that lies beneath our feet ie the old curzon st railway has also been uncovered....that is a bonus so i do have to take my hat off to the 100s of archaeologists who are doing a splendid job and a massive thanks for allowing us to visually see the work they have been doing...fascinating stuff roll on next tuesday

yes jim maybe in these cases now lessons have be learned...after all for all we know we may have ancestors that were buried at park st that deserve total respect

The lessons from the programme so far it seems to me is that if you want your remains preserved arrange to be buried in wet clay soil and to have a lead coffin plate! And if you want to save on funeral expenses donate your body to medical research.
