HP Sauce Christmas Party

Does anyone remember going to the HP sauce Christmas Party? I can still remember the excitement (and noise) of all the boys and girls. Wanting to eat as fast as we could, so that we got to watch 'THE Magician!' He was amazing. He used to put lots of different ingredients into a baking tin - even toothpaste had a generous squirt. Somehow he managed to light it and a great big puff of smoke came out from somewhere. Lo and behold, there was a beautiful cake!! (Can't seem to remember what he did with it afterwards. Probably wouldn't need to brush your teeth that night, if anyone had eaten it!

I think most firms used to have Christmas parties for the children of their employees, its a pity the tradition had to die out. People seemed to be the key issue in most buissinesses and it gave a sense of belonging.
OK the firms never gave nowt for nowt but I feel they were as fair as they could be. I've even worked for bosses who couldn't pay me untill they had been paid by the client, but I felt secure and knew I would get paid.
Bosses used to keep you informed about what was going on and it made you feel that you were part of the team.
Of course, I've also worked for some right shysters, but all in all you knew who to trust.

I have great memories of the Midlands Electricity Board parties and coach outings. They really didn't stint on their events as I remember. They
always gave very nice Christmas present to the kids and had a great show
at the Christmas parties. Local dance schools would entertain the kids. I remember one held in the cafeteria at S&U Carburettors on Tyburn Road another above the Red Lion Pub on Soho Road. They rigged up a stage at S&U and it was a lot more than a cup of tea and bun fest.

The coach trips were well run and I remember going to Wicksteed Park twice with the MEB and also Drayton Manor Park. This was decades ago but I still have good memories of these events. Making sure that the kids had a good time back then was very important to the organisers.
