Cheryl Jones Bakker
proper brummie kid
I'm new to this forum, and have searched but haven't seen an answer as to how I might obtain a copy (or transcription) of an article in the Sunday Mercury way back in the 1950's to early 1960's (judging by the clothing styles). I have a photograph that was in that publication of my great-uncle George Jones. Also in the photo are his elder brother Stephen, sisters Leah, Polly and May. I would like to have a copy of the article that must have accompanied this photo, since these were my grandfather Charles Henry Jones' siblings who were reunited after George and his younger brother Frederick Howard were sent to the Middlemore Home in 1910 and subsequently shipped off to Halifax, Nova Scotia in June of 1910 as British Home Children. The mother had died in 1910, the father suffered an injury as a gas worker, and nine children were in dire straits. One other younger brother had also died in 1909.

I believe, through researching Middlemore records, that George (while serving in the CEF) made contact with some family members while overseas. Can anyone give me some ideas as to how to secure this article? All links that I've found so far to the Mercury have current articles only. Is there an archive?

Many thanks for any help that you can give.
Cheryl
