Trying to find marriage details of my great great grandfather William Hopkins, he was born in Tipton Staffordshire in 1819. He married Elizabeth (b 1817) Their first child Thomas was born in 1841 (first of 5).

The family moved on to Birmingham after about 1868

Hope someone can help as not sure where to look

Hi Badger.

There is a William Hopkins on the LDS Site.

William Hopkins Christened 3 Oct 1819 in Tipton.

Parents;

Thomas Hopkins
Sarah.

Have you got the marriage certificate for William? If so, does it give his fathers name?

barrie.

This looks like them in the 1871 census, but not in Birmingham, they are in Stanton by Dale, Derbyshire.

William Hopkins 53 born Tipton
Elizabeth hopkins 55 born Tipton
Ann H Hopkins 29 born Tipton
William hopkins 17 born Tipton
Alfred Hopkins 16 born Tipton
Ann Dickens 24 born Blackheath
Sarah Cooper 22 born Tipton.

The census image is very faint, so I cannot make out his trade, but the two girls at the bottom of the list are both shown as servants.

deited to say; William and Elizabeth are on the 1861 in Dudley Port, he is a Coal Master. Have you got this one, or do you want it?

Thanks BARRIE

No I don't have a marriage Cert for William as I cant find a reference, (what is LDS?) and can I get a copy of the entry. I manage OK with the census etc but, struggle to get positive info earlier.

I know they went to derbyshire (Stanton by Dale and Saniacre) I believe he was a Iron works Manager or something like that.

Its back from william and Elizabeth I'm having trouble with, their marriage, elizabeths surname etc.

Badger. LDS is The Church of Latter Day Saints (the Mormons)

They have a search site at www.familysearch.org.uk on there are literaly millions of births, christenings, marriages and deaths. However, the listings on there cannot be accepted as 100% accurate, but are a guide of where to start.

Have a look at it and see what you think.

barrie.
