Help please! Does anyone have any idea what a hoop roller was? I've tried looking on the old occupations sites but can't find anything.
I now have 3 generations of hoop rollersand am intrigued!
I think it may be to do with iron working (?) as the last hoop roller is also listed on the census as being a iron puddler.
Any information gratefully received.

Hi Mand,

May be nothing to do with your hoop roller, but I have, in a tree I am doing, hoop and hurdle makers. These hoops were heavy duty barrel/cask hoops made from wood, that were then used for transporting goods. I have a photo on my 'Howell & Lilly thread', page 2, post 15.

P.S. Mand,

If yours are connected to the iron industry, perhaps he rolled out the bar of metal into strips, which were then used as 'the hoops' to make barrels/casks. So they were metal casks instead of the wooden ones in my photo.
