Re: geneolgy familyname , william hinton

Here is the Gerneral Record Office ref number for Bertha

Bertha Victoria Hinton born June Quarter 1887  Kings Norton 6c 465. If you want to order the certificate Astonian type FreeBMD into your browser, when you get there click search, then fill in all the info including the reference I have given to you. Then follow the leads as to how to order a birth certificate.

I have looked on the 1891 and 1901 Census, but I can't find the family

Walter and Victoria Hinton, Astonian.
In 1891 the family was at 61 Grove Street, Harborne.
(I assume you meant 1887, not 1987!)

Re: geneolgy familyname , william hinton

HI LLOYED
Many Thanks For Pointing That Out To Me Regardig The Date Yes It Was 1887 ,On A Berth Certi; I Have Been Given It States That Bertha Victoria Was
Born At 57 High Park Rd So Her Mother Was Also Victoria ,Is There Any Way I Can Find Out What Was Her Mothers Maiden Name Was I Know The Father Was Wiliam ,And is Occupation ,But I Really Would Like To Find The Mothers Maiden Any Clues To That LLOYED . Many Thanks Again Best Wishes ASTONIAN ,;;

Re: geneolgy familyname , william hinton

Sorry Astonian, I can't find that reference again-discount "Victoria" as the mother, I've misread something. The father is certainly Walter, as on the census.

Ann Hinton, widow, age 71 is Walter's mother.
Beatrice (7), Edith (5) and Bertha (3) are Walter's daughters. There is also a Ted Hinton as lodger.

Doesn't the birth certificate you have give a mother's name?

Re: geneolgy familyname , william hinton

HI LLOYED
Sorry But It Did,t It Only Gave The Fathers Name, And His OCCUPATION
Which Stated That He Was A Police Officier Which I Was Already Knew And The StoriesI Had Been Told When Young And How He Tipped The Inlaws Of Any Raids To There Premises That Was Going To Be Carried Out On There Premises For There ILLEGAL Gamberlings With Machines And There Bookings I Really Want To Find Ouut Whom Was Her Mother Many Thanks Again Astonian ,;;

Re: geneolgy familyname , william hinton

Astonian, I think that Berthas mother was Catherine,she may have died in 1890 age 38?.
Walter Hinton must at some time been in London,i think he may have married a Katherine/Catherine Wootton in 1877 and their son Walter Thomas was born Chelsea 1878 ref. 1a 287,his birth certificate will have Catherines maiden name.

by 1881 they were in West Bromwich 51 Queens street
Walter hinton age 26 b. Batsford, Glos. Policeman
Catherine age 26 born at sea.
Walter age 3 born Chelsea

Walter born 1878 is possibly in a Catholic reform school in Yorkshire in 1891 as this is the only entry that fits.
In 1901 he is age 23 Gunner RMA on board HMS MARS.

Re: geneolgy familyname , william hinton

Astonian,re. Berthas birth certificate it should have her name on it,perhaps it was an ommision on the certificate by the register office.I would contact the Register office that issued the original and get them to check the birth register,quote them the reference number on the certificate .

Re: geneolgy familyname , william hinton

By 1901, Walter Hinton (age 47) was a Brewer's Foreman, living at 185 Cape Hill, Smethwick, with Bertha (14) and housekeeper Harriet (looks like Plimley?) also aged 47.

In 1871, aged 19 Walter Hinton was still with his parents (and siblings), Charles & Ann Hinton at Churchill Gardens, (possibly Chipping Norton).

By 1881 he is married to Catherine Hinton (nee ???) at 51 Queen Street, West Bromwich, and is a Policeman. They have a son, Walter, aged 3, of whom I can find no further mention.

There is a death registered of a Catherine Hinton (born c 1855) in Kings Norton district (see below - this may be Smethwick) in 4th quarter of 1890.

1891 sees Walter Hinton with daughters Beatrice age 7, Edith age 5, and Bertha age 3, at 61 Grove Street, which although in Harborne sub-district of Kings Norton, is actually in Smethwick. Also there are Ted and Anne Hinton, listed as 'Lodgers'.

So Catherine is Bertha's mother, but other than a reference to her birth being "at sea" in the 1881 census, I can find no more about her.
