I'll start with the latest
George Richard Hinton b 1890 Aston died 1939 married Alice Perks
His Parents were George Hinton b1856 Aston married1889 Harriet Collinton b 1861 Birmingham d 1933 had a sweet shop in Jardine Road
1901 census shows George and Harriet living with his brother William b 1842 and his wife Ellen b 1847 B'ham
in 1881 census shows George lodging with Harriets relatives Harriet and William Jenks.
Thats as far as i've got......i think George's father was Richard, but I can't find a link. George and Richard Hinton were staying with the Jenks in 1881 and William with same age and Richard show in the 1851 census, but then can't find anything for '61 and '71. They all seem to disappear. although Richards occupation is commercial traveller so i suppose he could have been anywhere, but where did William and George get to??

How interesting you remember a Perks.
the sweet shop in our family was run by the Hintons, as far as I can see William Hinton did not have any children. I have sent for George Hintons birth certificate so I can find more Hinton info. i've only just started searching, I know they had the sweet shop in the 1920's but don't know how long they were there. (There was also a Harriet Hinton lited as a confectioner in the next road to ours - the place must have been over run with Hintons).
The Perks lived in Nechells and then later Erdington. As far as I am aware(so far) non of the family Hinton or Perks lived in Edgbaston. Some lived in Kidderminster. But I will go back over the census information.
On the Perks side I have gone quite far back and they lived in Aston/Nechells and before that West Bromwich

Very interesting to read your story, but unfortunately, I think it confirms we are looking at two different sides of the Hinton family. Our William did not have any children (certainly non that survived anyway) and unfortunately he was never a police officer either.
I bet him riding round on his police bike scarred a few rascals off!

I had an Uncle Norman Hinton, (he was something like a second cousin) he was married to a lady called Elsie , he was originally from Aston but moved to Tile Cross in the early to mid fifties (Briddsland Road) , he had a brother called George who I met only a couple of times , they were both quite small men in their build , I remember many years later going to the "Lamplighter" pub (in aston/newtown??)with Uncle Norman and my Dad to meet up with family /distant relatives , I met cousins who I had never met and cousins who I did not know existed
I cannot remember to much about Uncle Norman except I think he worked for Atlas Express with my Dad and that he liked his drink !. Elsie his Wife was a much larger person and their nickname in those days were Andy Capp and Else!

I had a George Hinton uncle, lived in Aston born around 1915/17. He was a twin to Tom Hinton. brothers Albert and Joe. Sisters Alice and Millicent.
