ahh i thought it was jan and yes the last time i walked around it it was not in good repair at all...i wonder if this young soldier has a headstone...think i will try a walk around the graveyard soon and take a photo if there is one...these newspaper snippets viv is posting are excellent because for all we know members reading them could be rellies of these men who knew nothing about their war daysYes Lyn - it is RC and one of a few with a graveyard. Sadly, I don't think it is in good repair. x
jan the actually stone could be well looked after but it was the general up keep of the graveyard that was lacking...when i went it was covered in those stinging nettles and the ground was so uneven it was hard to walk upright at times...anyway i will try and get down there next weekCWG site suggests there is a stone. I thought they were supposed to be looked after.
jan i think it was still being used a few years back but not sure now but looking at their web page i think it could still be open and looking at recent street view from what i can see it seems to look tidier than i remember itThat is what I meant Lyn. I am not sure the church is used often - if at all.
I’ve started a thread about WW1 Military funeral arrangements here https://birminghamhistory.co.uk/forum/index.php?threads/military-funerals-in-ww1.54620/Was it usual to give military funerals with gun carriage etc?
Just wondered as notice says "heart failure" rather than wounds or similar.
