I am researching my family tree and i was hoping that there maybe members who may have some info that would help me progress with it. I am researching my great grandfather James hewitt who died in WW1 19/08/1915 of his wounds in France. He was a private in the south staffs and aged approx 32yrs old when he died. He was married to sarah jane hewitt nee robinson and had 6 children. His service number was 10688.

Re: James Hewitt

here is james hewitts medal card.

if you wish to trace his and wifes family it would be best to get the marriage cert as it will give fathers names and occupations.

Re: James Hewitt

Thanks so much for the info that you sent me.
Do you know if birmingham library would have his service record? Also which newspaper archive could i search to obtain a orbituary? Thankyou for letting me pick your brain. Lou

Re: James Hewitt

a lot of the service records didnt survive (including my own grandfathers) so i dont think you will find anything on that as i could only find the medal card on ancestry.

the newspapers are at bham library but sorry dont know about obits
