Does anyone have any passed down recollections of the Herbert Family who lived in Armoury Road in 1911. The father was Ernest Herbert and the children - Ermyntrude (b1900) and Sidney john (b1904) Sidney was ny granfather who I believe died in 1937. Ermyntrude married young (Pearson) and had a child who died, poss in his 20's. K

Hello and welcome kah,
why don,t you put armoury road in the
search at the top right, there is a lot on the BSA and armoury rd.
regards dereklcg.

Thanks for the tip. Ernest is described on the census as a stationary engine driver. I originallt thought of the railway but maybe it was something in the factory??

Hi kah and welcome, yes it was in a factory --

Stationary Engine Driver Operated steam factory engine, used for all processes, usually linked by a system of shafts, pulleys and belts

Thanks a lot for the info, Bren. Because he's listed as Sidney on the 1911 census I didn't think to try a different spelling. It's possible that he was working for BSA then. Bit of a difference to his father who grew up in a village of 300 and worked on a farm! K
