GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN R.I.P.
if any one can throw any light on this please post and I will pass it on

I am trying to trace the family of Flight Sergeant Harold GYSEL RAF who came
from Handsworth . He was the son of Charles Jacob and Alice Maud Gysel .
Harold was the radar operator of a Bristol Beaufighter night-fighter
aircraft which crashed at Richmond , North Yorkshire on 14 December 1942
killing both Harold and his pilot William Hunt .
The Richmond Civic Society wish to erect a plaque on the crash site in
memory of the men and are seeking contact with any of Harold's surviving
relatives .
Any help would be greatly appreciated . Thank you .

Looked at this out-of-interest - although I believe the ceremony was in 2007, so many moons late!

I've an old (2005) UK Info Disk & came-up with "no records" re the name `Gysel' for the whole UK. Also tried `192.com' & while this indicated a marrriage it gave no detail - I think you have to buy credits or pay a fee. Leave it with you.

Re: Flt Sgt (Nav/WOp) GYSEL 219 Sqn RAF

While there is the `Handsworth' link - given the unusual name, is there also a Belgian link? 219 Sqn had Belgian aircrew.

I just had a look at the electoral role. In 1930 Harold Adolphus Gysel was living in at 41 Whitehall Rd, by 1935 he was there with Elsie. In 1939 Elsie Dorothy Gysel is recorded as living there on her own, Harold was probably away fighting.

Doesn't help with relatives today but it may help with tracing his wife's family.
